Manchester City will face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium on Monday night hoping to kick off the new Premier League campaign by securing all three points on the road. The Mancunian giants will try to make a strong start to this season if they want to be in a dominant position in the race for the league title.
Pep Guardiola will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is likely to deploy Gabriel Jesus to lead the charge up top when they take on the West Midlands outfit at the start of next week. However, the Man City boss will be wary of Wolves’ threat on the counter, especially after the Midlands side beat Sheffield United by a 2-0 scoreline last weekend.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Wolves
Defence
Ederson will play in goal for Man City as he looks to begin his season with a clean sheet to his game. Guardiola’s new summer signing, Nathan Ake could get the nod to start alongside Eric Garcia at the heart of the defence as they try to keep Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence in check throughout the game.
Kyle Walker will be a guaranteed starter at right-back while Joao Cancelo looks to impress on the other side as the left-back. They will both be instructed to push high up the field and make some overlapping runs out on the wide areas.
Aymeric Laporte will be sidelined for this game, but John Stones and Benjamin Mendy should be available for a place on the bench.
Midfield
Guardiola will probably name a midfield three composed of Phil Foden, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne as they all try to interchange passes amongst each other to engineer some inviting goal-scoring chances in the attacking third. However, Bernardo Silva is a major doubt for this game as he will be in a race against time to be passed fit for the clash away at the Molineux.
We can expect Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Tommy Doyle to be named on the bench.
Attack
Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez will look to stretch the pitch out on the flanks while Gabriel Jesus leads the line for the reigning EFL Cup champions down the middle. Sergio Aguero is still out of action due to injury, but Guardiola’s bench will be boosted by the presence of new signing, Ferran Torres, who is set to make his debut against Wolves on Monday.
