According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are said to be preparing to revive their former interest in the services of Chelsea’s prodigious English winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. The report suggests that the Bavarian club are quite hopeful that the Blues will listen to offers for their man after several key attacking acquisitions were made over the summer window. The German side were close to sealing the signing at the start of 2019, only for the youngster to commit to a long-term contract in West London.
Although the report has tipped Bayern Munich remain keen on Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, whether or not the speedster is still in Frank Lampard’s plans could define what path it takes. The teenager is said to be keen on receiving regular playing time at Stamford Bridge, as he aspired to be a part of the England team that goes to the Euros next year. Considering the number of attacking signings that Chelsea have made, it is claimed to be the Bundesliga club’s belief that the Blues could be willing to listen to offers.
What Is Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Current Situation At Chelsea?
The youngster first broke into the first-team picture a couple of seasons ago but is yet to really nail down a place in the side. Despite already serving under two managers in Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard, neither has given the teenager a regular slot. With the lack of first-team football apparent to see, the player couldn’t be blamed if he was tempted by the interest from Germany. In the most recent outing against Brighton and Hove Albion as well, Lampard opted to deploy Mason Mount on the flank despite having Hudson-Odoi, a natural winger, sitting on the bench.
Lampard has initiated what can only be described as a revolution at Stamford Bridge, and Hudson-Odoi is probably the player who has benefitted the least. The likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount were regulars at certain points during the last season, but the speedster was never really treated in the same manner. Moreover, the arrival of Christian Pulisic last season, and the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner this summer, have done little to help the youngster’s cause.
What Kind Of Player Is Callum Hudson-Odoi?
The Englishman can be best described as the quintessential modern-day winger, in that there is not much he doesn’t do well. Often seen bombarding down the flank leaving defenders for dead with his pace, the youngster also boasts extremely tricky feet. Capable of dribbling past any defender in the world on his day, he offers a degree of unpredictability that tends to often be the undoing of the opposition. Not just that, the speedster is also a good finisher of the ball, with his preferred avenue to goal being through the inside channel.
Bayern Munich Remain Keen On Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi: Should Lampard Cash In?
The London club are clearly aspiring for bigger things than last season this time around, and that requires a certain degree of consistency in terms of the quality of football as well as team selection. With Pulisic, Havertz, Mount and Ziyech all options for Lampard to choose from, it’s unlikely that Hudson-Odoi will be allotted a first-team place anytime soon. Selling a promising winger like Hudson-Odoi is the kind of thing that Chelsea could come to regret in the years to come. Despite this, if they’re able to get a decent enough price for his signature from the Bavarians, then it certainly wouldn’t be the worst idea for them to cash in on him this summer.
