Premier League giants Chelsea got their new campaign off to the right start after picking up a highly flattering 3-1 victory against Brighton And Hove Albion. The home side were in the ascendancy for most of the ninety, and it took a few individual moments for Chelsea to end up on top. The full-backs were given a torrid time at the back, but Reece James showed his quality by producing a bullet of a strike in the second half. A goalkeeping error led to the Seagulls’ only goal of the night, as two other efforts from Kurt Zouma and Jorginho ensured that the London club started the season with an important three points in the bag.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Brighton And Hove Albion:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Brighton And Hove Albion
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5
The Spaniard should definitely have done a better job keeping the Brighton goal out. Never looked to be in control of the box and seemed restless every time he came out to collect the ball.
Reece James – 7
The speedster was given a tough time by the Brighton attackers defensively, but he produced the goods in the opposite direction. Scored a belter of a goal before setting up the third from a corner.
Andreas Christensen – 6.5
The big Dane put in a solid performance in the heart of defence for Chelsea as he didn’t make any errors over the ninety. Made a number of headed clearances and passed the ball around well.
Kurt Zouma – 7
The French centre-half put in a dominant shift in the core of the Chelsea back-line tonight. Made multiple important blocks before scoring a rare goal himself from a well-placed Reece James corner.
Marcos Alonso – 5.5
The Spaniard linked up well with Werner and Mount down the left flank, but wasn’t able to produce any quality in the final third of the pitch. Did get caught out defensively by Lamptey at times too.
N’Golo Kante – 7.5
The Frenchman put in an extremely combative performance in the Chelsea engine room as he continually pressured the Brighton attackers. Made a couple of key tackles in the defensive third as well.
Jorginho – 6.5
The Italian was almost faultless with his passing, albeit without the required penetration. Tried to release the attackers on various occasions but couldn’t find the rhythm that he was looking for.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5.5
The Englishman started the game playing in almost the centre-forward position alongside Werner. Had a couple of good touches early on but wasted a great opportunity to release the German.
Mason Mount – 6
The versatile attacker was deployed in a left-winger position tonight as he was given a tough time by the relentless attacking of Lamptey. Tried to make inroads in the final third though.
Kai Havertz – 6
The German trickster had a relatively quiet debut as he wasn’t able to get into the game too much. The Blues’ lack of control in the match affected his ability to get on the ball and make things happen.
Timo Werner – 7.5
The German sensation showed the onlooking Premier League fans exactly what he is all about with a strong performance. Won the penalty for the opener, but wasn’t able to score himself.
