In a recent report, the Daily Express has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to table an offer for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer. It is understood that Spurs are looking to strengthen their attack by bringing in a suitable back-up for Harry Kane and has identified the Polish forward as an ideal option during this summer transfer window. The Naples outfit are demanding around £26m for their prolific goal-scorer who is eager to leave the club, thus opening the door for the North London giants to seal a move for him in this off-season (via The Daily Express).
Milik’s Eye-Catching Form At Napoli Last Season
The Serie A marksman enjoyed a terrific season at San Paolo Stadium as he produced a series of fruitful displays as the centre-figure of Gennaro Gattuso’s attack. Milik banged in 14 goals in 35 appearances for the Italian giants in the previous campaign across all fronts. However, he struggled to create too many meaningful openings in the final third and ended the season without an assist to show for his efforts.
The 51-capped Poland international showed some consistency by averaging 2.6 shots and 0.7 key passes per match in the Italian top-flight and the UEFA Champions League last season. The experienced striker even managed to distribute the ball with accuracy after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
However, Milik’s campaign was disrupted by multiple injuries which have hampered his progress at Naples over the past year. Hence, one can argue whether he can show a clean bill of health in the Premier League, which is known for its physicality and high intensity if he decides to seal a move to Spurs this summer.
What Will The Polish Striker Bring To The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
Milik can use his football intelligence to get himself a yard of space inside the opponent’s penalty box and has transformed himself into a composed finisher up top. He can hit the ball with a lot of power and is usually pretty accurate with his shots from long range. Standing at 1.86m, the Polish international can hold possession up to get others involved in the attacking third and is a set-piece specialist due to his knack for scoring and creating goals from dead-ball situations in the opposition half.
A centre-forward of Milik’s proven track record will undoubtedly bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options significantly in the 2020-21 campaign. He has got all the skillset required to serve as a suitable back-up to Kane. Recruiting the Polish goal-getter will also allow Spurs to play with two natural strikers up top when they require a late goal during a game.
Milik can also help the North London giants put up more of a fight in the domestic cup competitions and end their long wait for some silverware in the upcoming season. All in all, it seems like a logical decision for Mourinho to engineer a move to bring Milik to the English capital this summer.
