Manchester United faced Arsenal at home in what was a crucial game for the two teams and their managers. United were surprisingly more eager and attacking of the two sides as Arsenal looked totally lacklustre on the day. The Red Devils looked the more likely to score a goal and did just that in the second half through Juan Mata but in the end with their only shot on target, the visitors equalised and snatched a point off their rivals to go home with a very lucky but crucial point. Let’s analyse how the United players did in the game on a scale of 10.
De Gea (6/10)
Wasn’t called upon to make any kind of saves barring the header from Giroud to which he had no answer.
Valencia (8/10)
United’s best player on the pitch. Was menacing with his forward runs and overlaps and pressed really well too.
Jones (6.5/10)
Passed the ball well from the back and did effectively win his tackles. Also made the important interceptions and clearances.
Rojo (6/10)
Was defensively solid but poor in his passing. Hacked away every dangerous ball in the box when it came from his side making some good challenges.
Darmian (5/10)
Looked rash and uncomfortable in his play, made some dubious challenges and was lucky not to be shown a second yellow.
Carrick (6.5/10)
Calm and composed, the veteran provided the presence which was required in front of his back four. His performance allowed the players around him play with much more confidence
Herrera (7.5/10)
Herrera was really excellent in the midfield for United passing the ball beautifully, carving out chances for his teammates. His excellent interceptions in the defensive phase never allowed the visitors to settle into their rhythm.
Mata (8/10)
Another top draw performance from the Spaniard for his new manager. Mata scored a beautiful goal to give his team the lead and was surprisingly very strong in his tackling.
Watch this hilarious video below where we called Jose Mourinho a LOSER and a COWARD in front of Arsene Wenger just before the game.
Pogba (6.5/10)
Did a decent job for his team, threading some nice passes with some good runs from the midfield. Should have been a bit more strong aerially, though.
Martial (5.5/10)
Needed to work Jenkinson a lot more than he did on the day. Was seen only in patches as he failed to make an impact.
Rashford (6/10)
Worked the channels very well and gave a real test to Monreal with his pace. Was left for dead by Chamberlain in the equaliser where he could have done better.
Substitutes
Rooney (6.5/10)
Came on for Martial in the 63rd minute passed the ball well making some decent switches with the long diagonals.
Blind (5/10)
Came on in the 64th minute and slotted into the defence. Wasn’t called upon to do much defending, though.
Schneiderlin (N/A)
