As we head towards the start of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, clubs are already closing in on their final preparation.
Arsenal, for one, are showing tremendous promise, especially following their triumph in the FA Cup as well as the Community Shield. They have also made some exciting signings and are ready to compete for a top-four finish under Mikel Arteta.
In this article, we will talk about the strongest possible Arsenal lineup with their new signings next season.
Formation: 3-4-3
Defence
Arsenal have been boosted by the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes this summer. The Brazilian is almost a guaranteed starter, having joined the club in a big-money move from LOSC Lille.
The left-footed Gabriel should be an ideal fit on the right-sided centre-back slot in Arteta’s 3-4-3. He should be partnered by his compatriot David Luiz and Kieran Tierney, thus forming the three-man backline.
Tierney gets the nod ahead of William Saliba purely because of his recent performances and the fact that he has more experience than the Frenchman.
Finally, in goal, Bernd Leno should start ahead of Emiliano Martinez, whose charming run of form has done well to shadow an incredible season for his German competitor last season.
Midfield
Following weeks of speculations, Arsenal have finally managed to bring Dani Ceballos back to Emirates on loan. He should be reinstated in the central midfield role, where he is set to partner Granit Xhaka, getting the nod ahead of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
The two will form Arsenal’s double-pivot in the 3-4-3 and will be looking to replicate last season’s performances.
Elsewhere, Hector Bellerin looks like the best option for the Gunners in the right wing-back slot at the moment. The Spaniard should start ahead of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares while Bukayo Saka is a guaranteed starter over Sead Kolasinac on the opposite flank.
Attack
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in exceptional form since shifting into a wider attacking position on the left. But for the sake of finding the strongest possible Arsenal lineup, we have to relocate the Gabonese international to a more central role.
It should allow new signing William to occupy the left-wing position, with Nicolas Pepe a no brainer over Reiss Nelson. As for Mesut Ozil, he is unlikely to remain a part of Arteta’s plans after failing to feature in a single game for Arsenal since the restart.
