In a recent report, Sport has claimed that Thomas Lemar wants a Premier League move amid current interest from Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer. The French winger has rejected a chance to join FC Porto which could open the door for the Toffees to recruit him during this summer transfer period (via Sport).
Lemar’s Nightmare Spell At The Wanda Metropolitano Stadium
The 24-year-old has endured an underwhelming spell at the Spanish capital so far since arriving from AS Monaco in the summer of 2018. Lemar continued to struggle with his performance levels in the previous campaign when he failed to register a goal or an assist across all competitions.
The former Ligue 1 star could only average 0.6 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League last season which goes to show just how inconsistent he has been for the Madrid outfit over the past 12 months. At least, the Baie-Mahault born attacker was tidy with his ball-distribution after making 84.5% of his attempted passes in both league and European football (stats via whoscored).
The 22-time French international needs to end his Atletico nightmare as soon as possible, so Goodison Park would be an attractive destination for him to consider in this off-season. With Lemar eyeing a summer switch to England, the Toffees could choose to take a leap of faith in his ability as an experienced manager like Carlo Ancelotti might be the ideal man to get the best out of him in the coming seasons.
What Will The Atletico Flop Add To Ancelotti’s Side?
Lemar is versatile enough to play on either flank and possesses the quickness as well as the agility to produce some dangerous runs out on the wide areas. He was a valuable goal-scorer and assist-maker during his time at Monaco where he rose to prominence by putting in several mesmerising displays in the Ligue 1. The French wide player banged in 22 goals and grabbed 33 assists in 127 matches for his old club on all fronts. However, it remains to be seen whether Lemar has what it takes to come out of his slump by rediscovering his form at the highest level.
Is Lemar The Right Choice For The Toffees This Summer?
Maybe a switch to Merseyside could offer him the ideal stage to make a fresh start so that he can play his way back into form next season. He will add a lot of pace and energy to Ancelotti’s attack. Furthermore, Lemar will increase competition for the likes of Alex Iwobi, Bernard, Richarlison, Theo Walcott and Anthony Gordon at Goodison Park.
All in all, the French speedster will be a decent choice for Everton if they are willing to put their trust on the player. Otherwise, the safer option for them would be to steer clear of an underperforming talent like Lemar this summer.
