AC Milan have announced the arrival of Brahim Diaz. The Real Madrid playmaker joins the Serie A giants in a season-long loan deal, after completing the medical earlier in the week. Brahim becomes Milan’s third major signing this summer after Simon Kjaer and Alexis Saelemaekers and will wear the number 21 jersey previously worn by Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season.
Brahim Diaz’s Lack of Prospects at Real Madrid
Brahim Diaz moved to Real Madrid at the start of last year, in a €17 million move from Manchester City. However, the youngster has had a difficult start to his career at Santiago Bernabeu, making a total of 15 league appearances for Los Blancos so far.
The Spaniard’s decision to leave Real Madrid makes sense even though the club has notably sent Reinier Jesus on loan to Borussia Dortmund. They are also expected to offload James Rodriguez, while Isco faces an uncertain future at the club after falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane’s second spell at Bernabeu.
Brahim Diaz, however, still has very little prospect of dethroning the likes of Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos and Eden Hazard in Real Madrid’s creative unit. Not to mention, they have been boosted by the return of Martin Odegaard while Federico Valverde is expected to further push for a regular place in the starting eleven next season.
Why AC Milan Could Be The Right Choice
Diaz has been wise to choose AC Milan over any other top club in Europe as his next destination this summer.
The Rossoneri have improved a lot under Stefano Pioli and were one of Serie A’s best performing clubs during the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. They have responded incredibly despite the departure of Suso last summer, with Hakan Calhanoglu now leading their creative force.
Diaz, in that regard, should provide some much-needed cover for the Turkish international in the number ten role. He can also compete with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Daniel Maldini and Alexis Saelemaekers for a place in the starting eleven next season.
The emergence of players like Saelemaekers and Ismael Bennacer suggest that Pioli is ready to incorporate young players into this team and Brahim Diaz could well be the next player to establish himself as a key component of the Rossoneri.
