According to a recent report by Czech news source isport.cz, Premiership giants Rangers are said to be ‘very interested’ in the services of KRC Genk’s Slovakian international midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky. The report suggests that the player has caught the attention of former midfielder Steven Gerrard, but that the financials could come as a stumbling block in this situation as well. While there was talk of a possible move to one of Slavia Prague or Spartak Moscow, the €4m asking price has turned out to be a massive hindrance.
Although the report has confirmed that Rangers are interested in Genk midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky, agreeing on the duration of the transfer and the mode of payment will not be an easy task. While the Belgian club are said to be looking for a permanent sale, Gerrard is reportedly only after a year-long loan deal. It has further been clarified that the €4m asking price could be too much for the Ibrox club to cough up. Despite this, it has also been claimed in the report that the environment surrounding this transfer could change in the coming weeks.
What Is Rangers’ Current Squad Situation?
Some of the business that Steven Gerrard’s men have done so far this summer has been commendable, and their chances of finishing above Celtic in the league table have certainly increased. The acquisitions of Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe are sure to go a long way for the Gers in an attacking sense.
With all the commotion surrounding the future of Alfredo Morelos as well, the strike-duo is likely to have an important part to play. At the back as well, the signing of Leon Balogun has hoisted this Rangers back-line to the next level.
With a variety of options available to the manager in attack and defence, the only real area of concern in the side is in the engine room. Ryan Jack has been the first-choice holding midfielder, and his performances have certainly lived up to the mark. Joe Aribo strongly started the season as well, while Glen Kamara was preferred as the third choice in midfield. The Finland international though has since been dropped from the team, with a frustrating lack of attack-minded midfielders available in the roster. Although Scott Arfield is an option, the former Premier League man doesn’t offer the required quality in the final third anymore.
What Would Patrik Hrosovsky Add To This Rangers Setup?
The Slovakian isn’t the biggest player in the world, but the technical ability that he boasts is quite sensational. Adept at picking up the ball in the middle of the park and using his passing range to spread play, the 28-year-old would add a different dimension to Rangers’ attacking system. Not only does the midfielder have the ability to pick out sensational long-range passes, but he is also a good dribbler in possession. Despite not being the most prolific of players, his skill of consistently scoring from the penalty spot will be a useful asset for Gerrard as well.
Rangers Are Interested In Genk Midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky: Smart Move For Gerrard?
The Slovakian international has the quality required to really flourish in Scotland, and his current situation in Belgium could motivate the player to force a move away. There is no need even to question the importance he would be given as a midfielder at the Ibrox, as Steven Gerrard looks to build a team that can challenge Celtic to the title all the way this season. Undoubtedly more technically gifted than both Scott Arfield and Glen Kamara, Hrosovsky would add something fresh to this Rangers midfield, and signing him could prove to be the difference between finishing second and first on the table this season.
