Bayern Munich are, without a doubt, the best team in Europe right now, having just won the treble. However, after an incredible season, the Bavarians are preparing for a busy transfer window, with Thiago Alcantara, in particular, likely to leave the club amid Liverpool links. In this article, however, we will discuss three players Bayern should target as Thiago replacement this summer.
Marcelo Brozovic
Marcelo Brozovic is one of the realistic and sensible options for Bayern Munich for multiple reasons. He has the experience at the highest level of football and is just the kind of leader Hansi Flick wants in the midfield department.
The Croatian international is also hard-working, having become one of Inter Milan’s key components under Antonio Conte. It is combined with his technical prowess – making Brozovic one of the complete midfielders in Europe.
At Bayern, Brozovic should thrive alongside the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. His ability to provide composure, in particular, should allow his companions to act freely, especially in the second line of press.
Moreover, the 27-year-old could be a cost-effective option as well, with Inter Milan reportedly keen on offloading the midfielder this summer.
Houssem Aouar
Houssem Aouar has enjoyed an immense rise in his stock in recent months, due to his heroics with Olympique Lyon in the UEFA Champions League. He has managed to showcase his qualities at the highest level of football and has recently been awarded his first call-up to the French national team.
A central midfielder by trade, Aouar can provide fluidity in Bayern’s build-up play. He is, in fact, almost untouchable, at times when he is in possession, and it complements his aggression and willingness to win back the ball for his team – making the Frenchman a tailor-made fit for the Bavarians.
Although Aouar is not an unrealistic option for Bayern Munich, they will undoubtedly face stiff competition in pursuit of the Lyon midfielder, who is also expected to cost a fortune. But, there is no doubt over his quality and the fact that he could be an asset in Bavaria.
Dani Ceballos
Dani Ceballos is a risky but an interesting option for Bayern Munich this summer, in their bid to replace Thiago. Unlike other players on this list, the Spaniard is not exactly a hot topic in the market.
However, Ceballos’ improvement at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta is often underappreciated. Not to mention, the midfielder played a key role in helping the Gunners secure the FA Cup title this past season, before returning to Real Madrid.
What makes Ceballos an appealing target for Bayern is the fact that the 24-year-old has greatly improved his game. While he was already known for his technical prowess, the Real Madrid star is now a capable fighter and a courageous tackler, who can win the ball back for his team.
Ceballos’ ball-playing qualities could also make him an excellent option for Flick this summer. However, it is unlikely that the Bundesliga giants will want to make a move for the Spaniard.
