Premiership giants Celtic crashed out of this season’s edition of the UEFA Champions League after losing 2-1 to Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros at Celtic Park tonight. The away side took the lead early on after Neil Lennon’s men failed to properly clear the ball. Despite putting up a fairly dominant performance from that point on, the feeling that their back-line could be pierced through at any moment lingered. A deflected Ryan Christie strike equalised the score-line, before some horror defending from Elhamed led to the Ferencvaros winner. The Hoops will now play in the Europa League, as the lack of a striker’s presence from the start had a serious impact on this Celtic side’s productivity tonight.

Vasilis Barkas – 6
The Greek stopper was barely called into action by the Ferencvaros attackers tonight as they registered very few shots on target. Should have arguably done a better job with the second goal though.
Hatem Abd Elhamed – 6
The big defender was assured at the back for the most part, and he made some adventurous runs forward too. Was caught out horribly on the lead up to Ferencvaros’ second goal of the evening.
Christopher Jullien – 6
The centre-half looked extremely suspect in the heart of defence for Celtic tonight as his positioning and control were both off on various instances. Calm on the ball though and passed it around well too.
Kristoffer Ajer – 6.5
The big Norwegian made multiple darting forward runs from his position in central defence. Showed good composure in possession, but needs to maintain a lot more concentration while defending.
Greg Taylor – 6.5
The speedster tried to get forward and make things happen in the final third, but he wasn’t allowed the space required to find inroads into the Ferencvaros defence. Delivered a couple of decent crosses.
Scott Brown – 6
The veteran midfielder played a flurry of poorly placed passes over the course of the ninety, but he also controlled the tempo of the game from the Celtic engine room. Tried to get forward at times too.
Callum McGregor – 6.5
The talented midfielder had a couple of decent shots at the Ferencvaros goal tonight, but he wasn’t able to find a way past the keeper. Passed it around well, but couldn’t find that perfect final ball.
James Forrest – 6
The speedster had a promising first-half after the Celts went down to an easy goal for the Hungarian side. Despite the Scottish team’s dominance, he wasn’t able to have the required impact in attack.
Olivier Ntcham – 6.5
Despite not putting in the most fluent of performances, Ntcham was one of the Hoops’ better players of the night. Unfortunate to have smashed a strike against the upright in the second half.
Mohamed Elyounoussi – 7
The trickster was, without a doubt, the best player on the pitch. His technique and ability on the ball were on full display all through the tie, but he wasted a couple of good chances to score though.
Ryan Christie – 6
The attacker was deployed in an uncharacteristic centre-forward role tonight, and as expected, he struggled to get into the game. Some good touches here and there, but didn’t create much.
