Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has recently claimed that Manchester United are showing interest in recruiting Juventus winger Douglas Costa this summer. It is believed that the Red Devils are currently evaluating whether to launch a move for the Brazilian attacker during this summer transfer window.
Costa’s Impressive Yet Injury-Ravaged Season In Italian Football
Multiple injuries disrupted Costa’s progress at the Allianz Stadium last season as he ended up missing out on several important matches for Juve over the past 12 months. However, the 31-capped Brazilian international has done well to register three goals and seven assists in 29 appearances for the Turin outfit in the previous campaign on all fronts.
Costa impressed in patches under the stewardship of the former Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri after averaging 0.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in the Serie A and the UEFA Champions League last season. He was even accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 83.8% in the top tier of Italy (stats via whoscored).
The 29-year-old is in dire need to secure a regular run of matches next season if he wants to reignite his old form at the top level. Costa has still got a few years left in his tank to prove his worth for another high-profile European club, so the Red Devils would be getting a player who would be well-motivated to succeed at the highest stage in the coming seasons.
What Will The Brazilian Sensation Bring To The Table?
Costa is incredibly quick when running with the ball out on the wide areas and enjoys completing a few dangerous dribbles in the opposition half that makes him such a constant menace for the opposition. He is proficient at getting himself into some promising positions in and around the opponent’s penalty area and is not shy of launching a powerful shot if invited to shoot from long range.
Even though the South American talent’s goals have dried up in recent seasons, yet he can still be a useful member of any top-flight club. He is versatile enough to feature as a wide player on either wings or play in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder.
Is Costa The Right Fit For Man United This Summer?
Costa’s pace and creativity could allow him to succeed at a club like Man United where he could potentially form a devastating attacking partnership with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the upcoming campaign.
However, the Brazilian can expect to fight for his place as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had often preferred to use Rashford, Greenwood and Daniel James out on the flanks at the Theatre of Dreams last season. All in all, Costa will be a great fit for the Red Devils as he has what it takes to help the Mancunian giants challenge for some major silverware if they can successfully bring him to Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.
