Wayne Rooney could be stripped off of the England captaincy after he was pictured in a questionable manner. Rooney was seen in a drunken state after England defeated Scotland 3-1. He was told by Gareth Southgate to get back to sleep but the 31-year-old defied his boss and kept drinking till almost 5am.
FA will now investigate the matter. Rooney had already apologised to the FA and Gareth Southgate for his inappropriate behaviour. It was also being reported that 10 other players went to different nightclubs on that day.
Southgate is expected to be announced as the permanent manager of England and the Manchester United forward could be axed from his captaincy.
FA chief executive Martin Glenn confirmed that they are looking into the matter, ‘We’re getting a proper investigation of what actually went on. I think it’d be, “Why on earth are you doing that, given there is an understanding, a team agreement around alcohol consumption during camps?” — so there would be questions asked.’
