According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Huddersfield Town are eyeing a move for Kamil Miazek. The Terriers are keen on signing at least two goalkeepers as Carlos Corberan looks to address his side’s issues in the defensive department. Miazek is still being considered as a Leeds United player even though there has been no confirmation from the club regarding a potential extension of a contract that was supposed to expire at the end of June.
Kamil Miazek’s Story At Leeds United So Far
Miazek joined Leeds United back in October 2017, after he was released by Polish outfit, Chojniczanka. He was initially signed up as a member of the reserve squad and was primarily considered as a future prospect.
Unfortunately for the Pole, however, he has endured a pretty frustrating spell at Elland Road, with Marcelo Bielsa unwilling to try out different things as far as the core of his team is concerned. As a result, Miazek is yet to feature in a single game for Leeds, even though he has been a part of the bench numerous times during this campaign.
As a matter of fact, appearing in four matches for Chojniczanka remains Miazek’s only experience in professional football.
Does Miazek Have A Future At Leeds?
Leeds United are facing a delicate situation in the goalkeeping department this summer. Their first-choice ‘keeper Kiko Casilla has endured a mixed form, having made a handful of defensive errors and also being handed an eight-game ban due to an apparent racist slur. He is widely considered to be mediocre for Premier League standards.
The Whites do have another option in Illan Meslier. The Frenchman, who was on loan from Lorient this past season, has been in sublime form after getting the chance to start, thanks to Casilla’s suspension. He ended up preserving an impressive seven clean sheets in just ten matches, helping Leeds win the Championship.
However, Meslier lacks experience at the highest level of football and with Casilla facing an uncertain future at the club, Leeds United desperately need depth in the goalkeeping department. But, at the same time, it is unlikely that Miazek will be given a chance to prove his qualities at the highest level of football.
Besides, for someone who is yet to feature in the Leeds first-team, a move away from Elland Road is the ideal option for Miazek as he looks to make his breakthrough in professional football.
Is Huddersfield United An Ideal Destination?
Huddersfield United are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper after Jonas Lossl’s loan spell had expired. The Dane has returned to Everton, leaving the Terriers quite shallow in between the sticks.
They have only one goalkeeper right now in Ben Hamer, and although youngster Ryan Schofield has returned from his loan spell at Livingston FC, he is unlikely to be a part of Corberan’s plans for next season. That is where Miazek comes into the fray.
In fact, Corberan, having worked with Bielsa and Miazek, during their time together at Leeds United, could play a significant role in the goalkeeper’s development at Huddersfield Town. It means the Pole is very likely to receive an opportunity to make an impact in the Championship next term although he might still have to compete with Hamer and perhaps another goalkeeper for a place in the starting lineup.
Nonetheless, it is still an improvement over Leeds United as the youngster seeks to take the next step in his career.
