Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side got their 20/21 Premiership season off to the right start after an important 1-0 away victory against Aberdeen in the opening game of the campaign. The Gers were the dominant force in the tie right from the off, and it was surprising to see that Allan McGregor didn’t have a single save to make all through the fixture. New signing Leon Balogun put in a composed shift alongside Connor Goldson in the heart of the defence, as Joe Aribo controlled the tempo of the game with his movement in midfield. The difference between the sides turned out to be a first-half goal by Ryan Kent, and with the Dons going down to ten men in the late stages, the scoreline remained 1-0.

Allan McGregor – 6
The veteran stopper wasn’t called into action on a single occasion by the Aberdeen forwards tonight as they were well-watched by the Gers’ defence. Calm with the ball at his feet too.
James Tavernier – 6.5
The skipper made some good attacking forays in the first half but didn’t have the same impact in the second forty-five. Was forced to do a lot of defending in the latter stages of the fixture as well.
Connor Goldson – 7
The centre-half was completely solid against the Aberdeen attackers as he ensured to keep them at arm’s length all through the fixture. Made some strong headed clearances as well.
Leon Balogun – 7
The new signing was given his first minutes in a Rangers shirt today, and it’s safe to say that his performance in the core of defence was impressive. Some important tackles and forward runs too.
Borna Barisic – 7
The full-back made multiple overlapping runs all through the ninety, as he delivered some neat balls into the area for the Gers forwards to attack. Tracked back when he was required to and linked up well.
Glen Kamara – 6
The Finnish midfielder struggled to get into the game during the first half, as he was caught in possession on multiple instances. Made some good turns, but didn’t produce anything meaningful.
Ryan Jack – 6.5
The Scottish midfield anchor played some good passes out from the Gers’ engine room today but wasn’t able to produce the required cutting edge when going in the forward direction.
Joe Aribo – 7.5
The Nigerian was deployed as the most advanced midfielder by Steven Gerrard, and he did an excellent job keeping things flowing in the core of the side. Had a shot cleared off the line in stoppage time.
Ianis Hagi – 6.5
The summer acquisition was far from his best as he wasted a few opportunities by misplacing a pass or shooting wide. Linked up very efficiently with the other Rangers attackers though.
Alfredo Morelos – 7
The Colombian, despite not having the most impactful of outings, put himself about on every opportunity. Didn’t give the Dons’ defenders a moment’s rest and picked up the assist for Kent’s goal.
Ryan Kent – 7
The speedster picked up some extremely dangerous positions throughout the ninety and played one peach of a ball to free Hagi in the second half. Slotted past Joe Lewis in confident fashion.
