According to a recent report by Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are set to be rivalled by West Ham United in pursuit of Brentford wide player Saïd Benrahma this summer. The same source has also claimed that the Villans were interested in the Algerian winger last summer, but a move failed to materialise back then.
Benrahma’s Incredible Form For Brentford This Season
Benrahma’s future could also hinge on whether the Bees can secure promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs this season as they will be determined to retain his services if they can emerge victorious in the upcoming 2019-20 EFL Championship playoffs final. The Algerian attacker has been enjoying a sensational run of form on the left side of Thomas Frank’s frontline. He has registered 17 goals and ten assists in 45 appearances for the Bees this term across all fronts which goes to show just how productive he has been in the decisive end of the field.
The Algerian international has been remarkably consistent with his performances for the Bees over the past ten months after averaging 3.9 shots, 2.2 key passes, 3.0 dribbles and 0.8 crosses per game in the English Championship (stats via whoscored).
Benrahma has also earned three senior caps for the Algerian national team, but is still waiting to score his first goal for his country. Maybe a summer switch to Villa Park could offer him a more prominent platform to showcase his skills and secure more senior appearances for Algeria in the years to come.
What Will The Algerian Winger Bring To Villa Park?
Benrahma can use his pace and agility to make some driving runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is a wonderful dribbler who has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Championship this season. However, the Algerian wide player lacks experience of playing at the highest level, which would make him a gamble for any of his potential suitors, including the Villans.
Will Benrahma Be A Good Option For The Villans?
Recruiting Benrahma could prove to be a clever move by Dean Smith if he can successfully win the race for his signature ahead of the new season. He will not only add more pace and goals to the Villa attack, but also improve the overall depth of their squad. Plus, he is a natural winger and would be an upgrade over Jack Grealish down the left side of Smith’s attack next season.
If the West Midlands outfit can retain their best players and add some promising talents like Benrahma, then they should have a decent chance of securing a midtable finish in the upcoming Premier League campaign. All in all, the Brentford star will be an excellent option for Aston Villa to consider before the start of the new campaign as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what is required to succeed in the English top-flight.
