Newcastle United will play hosts to Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon hoping to pick a positive result in their final home game of this Premier League campaign. The Magpies managed to grind out a 0-0 draw versus Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this week and would look to produce another impressive defensive performance when the Reds come to town this weekend.
Steve Bruce will probably go with a 3-4-3 formation and might name an unchanged team for this upcoming league clash at Tyneside.
3-4-3 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Martin Dúbravka will retain his spot in goal for the Magpies after securing a hard-fought clean sheet versus the Seagulls on Monday. Bruce might opt for a back three of Emil Krafth, Federico Fernandez and Danny Rose as they look to collectively stop the Liverpool front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Fimrino and Mohamed Salah from scoring this weekend.
Krafth is a slight concern ahead of this game but should be fit in time to feature on the right side of the Newcastle backline. However, this match might come too soon for Florian Lejeune who is still out with an injury.
Midfield
Jonjo Shelvey will anchor the Newcastle midfield alongside Nabil Bentaleb as they try to stop some of the Liverpool attacks at the centre of the park. Both Matt Ritchie and Javier Manquillo would operate as the wing-backs on either side of the Magpies midfield. The hard-working duo will have to track some of the late runs made by the opposition full-backs and will also be responsible for creating some decent goal-scoring chances in the final third.
Isaac Hayden won’t be ready in time for this game, but Matty Longstaff should be fit to start on the bench and might come on in the second half if required.
Attack
Miguel Almiron will look to cause a few problems for Trent Alexander-Arnold out on the wide areas. Allan Saint-Maximin will hope to do the same while up against Andrew Robertson on the other flank.
Dwight Gayle will lead the line for the Magpies down the middle. He recently scored versus Watford which would keep him in high spirits heading into this home encounter versus the Merseyside giants.
Both Andy Carroll and Joelinton will be available for selection on the bench and could feature as the impact substitutes in the second half if needed.
