Writing for Daily Mail, Danny Mills has tipped Adam Lallana to succeed at Leeds United. The former Manchester City star believes that the Liverpool midfielder would be a perfect fit as the Whites look to survive in the Premier League next season. “Adam Lallana, out of contract at Liverpool, would be perfect. Great energy, good footballer, good attitude”, Mills wrote, in his column.
Do Leeds United Need A New Midfielder?
Leeds United don’t necessarily have a stacked midfield department, which is quite normal for coach Marcelo Bielsa. Kalvin Phillips is by far their main man not just in midfield, but also in the entire team, having become a revelation in that holding midfield role.
Aside from him, Leeds have the mercurial Pablo Hernandez, who has been one of the best players of the Championship this season. The Spaniard has the experience of highest of football as well as the quality to thrive in the Premier League. But, at the age of 35, there are question marks over his fitness.
Other options for Bielsa include Jamie Shackleton, Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Bogusz, none of who have any experience in top-flight football. Mateusz Klich has some experience but has never really been able to survive in any top-flight football during his career.
Therefore, Leeds United certainly are in desperate need of reinforcements in the midfield department. They are far too reliant on the services of Hernandez in terms of creativity, which is not healthy, given the Spaniard’s age. They also lack the presence of a proper Premier League veteran, who can provide the composure and experience to the table.
How Adam Lallana Can Solve Marcelo Bielsa’s Problem
Lallana is among the players set to leave Liverpool this summer after failing to make an impact under Jurgen Klopp. While he was never really a fit for the Reds, the ex-Southampton man could be a dream signing for Leeds United.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Lallana could provide the much-needed creative essence in the midfield, without the Whites having to rely on Hernandez. In the double-pivot of Bielsa’s 4-2-3-1, the Englishman can create an ideal partnership with Phillips, whose composed and defensive nature should combine well with the more attack-oriented Lallana.
However, what makes the Liverpool star such an appealing target for Leeds United is his experience at the highest level of football. Throughout his career, the 32-year-old has mustered almost 200 appearances in the Premier League as well as winning 34 caps for the Three Lions, which could be priceless for a Leeds setup lacking star players.
Having said that, Lallana is, no doubt, a fantasy signing for the Whites at the moment, especially given their expected financial shortcomings this summer, thanks to economic damage inflicted by the Coronavirus.
