Manchester United faced off against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier this evening hoping to win and keep pace with Leicester City in the Premier League’s top four race. The Red Devils enjoyed more of the ball in the first 45 minutes and finally managed to make the breakthrough just before the half-time break when Marcus Rashford scored with a calm finish.
The second half was more of the same with the away team dominating the ball while Palace looked to threaten on the counter. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men finally made the points secure in the 78th minute when Anthony Martial scored with a tidy finish. The contest ended with Man United securing a 2-0 win over the Eagles.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against the Eagles.
GK: David De Gea – 8/10
The Spanish keeper made a few excellent saves to deny the Eagles from scoring. He kept a well-deserved clean sheet at the back and proved once again why he is Man United’s number one keeper.
LB: Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 6/10
He worked hard and put in a solid shift during the 90 minutes. However, the Dutchman also had a few nervy moments inside his own half, but did enough to secure the shutout.
CB: Harry Maguire – 6.5/10
The English defender was not shy of making some well-timed tackles and performed well under pressure to see out the win.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6/10
The Swedish centre-half struggled to cope with Wilfried Zaha’s threat, but just about did enough to restrict him from scoring a goal.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10
He was completely dominated by Zaha out on the wide areas in what was overall a tough outing for him at Selhurst Park.
CM: Paul Pogba – 6/10
The Frenchman retained possession well in midfield, but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third.
CM: Scott McTominay – 4.5/10
He sometimes gave away the ball too cheaply and struggled to cope with the tempo of the contest. Unsurprisingly, McTominay got subbed just after the hour mark.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 8.5/10
The English attacker kept his composure to score from close range in the first half. He also set-up Martial’s goal in the 78th minute and was by far the best Man United player on the field.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
The Portuguese playmaker was always a threat, but missed a glorious chance to score in the second half. He will be hoping for more productive days wearing a Man United shirt.
RM: Mason Greenwood – 5/10
He lacked sharpness and produced a disjointed performance in the opposition half.
ST: Anthony Martial – 7.5/10
The French striker kept his cool to score Man United’s decisive second goal which killed the game off. It was another impressive display from him today.
Substitutes:
CM: Nemanja Matic – 6/10
The Serbian added some bite and steel to the Man United midfield.
CM: Jesse Lingard – 6/10
He brought some fresh legs in midfield without creating too much going forward.
