According to Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are among clubs interested in Wilfried Zaha. The Crystal Palace winger has once again attracted interest from a host of clubs across Europe as he braces himself for yet another transfer saga, full of uncertainty. It is believed that the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic could force Crystal Palace to cash in on Zaha, who is courted by clubs like Everton, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich this summer.
Wilfried Zaha’s season so far
Before the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Zaha was one of the most in-demand players in England, having notably being involved in 20 Premier League goals the previous season.
However, the Ivorian has failed to hit the heights of last season, scoring only four goals in 35 league matches. In fact, his strike in the defeat to Chelsea earlier this month was his first Premier League goal since early December of last year. Although the winger has chipped in with five assists this term, it is nowhere near last season’s tally of ten.
Zaha’s lack of productivity has coincided with Crystal Palace’s own attacking problems as only bottom club Norwich City (26) have scored fewer goals than the Eagles (30) so far this campaign.
How does Zaha fit in at Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich’s interest in Zaha seems rather bizarre especially after the club acquired the services of Manchester City ace Leroy Sane this summer. The German international is set to provide stiff competition to Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman for a place in the first-team.
At the same time, however, Bayern Munich could still lack depth in the wide attacking department. Phillipe Coutinho, for one, will not return to the club, following an underwhelming loan spell in Bavaria. Even the experienced Ivan Perisic has failed to make a telling impact after joining the club on loan from Inter Milan.
Zaha, therefore, can offer some much-needed depth in the wide-attacking department, depth that could be essential in helping Bayern Munich retain their dominance in German football for the foreseeable future.
Should Bayern Munich make a move for Zaha?
Bayern Munich’s potential move for Zaha depends on a lot of factors, with the biggest one being his asking price. Crystal Palace have previously managed to fend off interest by slapping a massive price-tag on their star man. But, the attacker’s valuation could reduce significantly due to his slight decline as well as the Coronavirus pandemic.
That being said, the Bundesliga giants still cannot afford to spend more than €50 million on the services of Zaha, especially given the fact they may need to sign a midfielder too, with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez and Corentin Tolisso facing an uncertain future at Allianz Arena.
