According to a recent report by The Independent, Paris Saint-Germain have made Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford their top transfer target for the upcoming window. The same source has also mentioned that PSG boss Thomas Tuchel reckons the Red Devils speedster is ‘the perfect model of the modern dynamic attacking player’ and has identified him as a top target this summer.
Rashford’s Impressive Numbers At Old Trafford This Season
Rashford has enjoyed another brilliant campaign at the Threatre of Dreams following a series of productive displays while playing mostly as a winger on the left side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s frontline. He has featured in 38 matches for Man United this term, netting 21 goals and providing ten assists across all competitions which goes on to show just how productive he has been in the attacking third.
The English marksman has been in fine form in the Premier League after averaging 3.2 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in league football this season. However, he has been quite untidy with his ball-distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 76.8% in the English top-flight so far (stats via whoscored).
Rashford has also proven his worth at the international stage after representing the England national team in 38 matches while registering ten goals for his homeland in the process. Maybe a summer switch to Paris could help him take his game to the next level in the upcoming campaign which might be enough for him to secure a guaranteed spot in Gareth Southgate’s first-team for next year’s UEFA European Championship finals.
What Are The England International’s Best Attributes?
Rashford can use his pace and quickness to make some driving runs with the ball and is usually a composed finisher in the final third. He excels at creating space for himself and can be dangerous when left isolated in a 1v1 footrace with his marker. Solskjaer has often used him down the left flank this season rather than playing him as a centre-forward.
Why Solskjaer Cannot Afford To Sanction Rashford’s Departure
A summer switch to PSG could be an appealing move for him as Tuchel could offer him a chance to operate down the middle which might help him score more goals with the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe supporting him from the flanks. However, the Red Devils would be foolish to entertain any offers for the 22-year-old this summer.
Rashford has come through Man United’s youth system and knows what it means to play for such a prestigious club week in week out. Solskjaer cannot afford to lose him this summer, especially when he is so close to building a strong squad capable of challenging for trophies in the coming seasons. The Mancunian giants will be better off keeping Rashford at the club for the long-run as he still has the potential to become a generational talent in the future.
