Tottenham Hotspur will lock horns with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. Spurs have won two of their last three Premier League matches which will keep them in good spirits heading into this midweek showdown versus the Magpies.
Jose Mourinho will once again opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and might make a couple of changes to his first-team for this clash away at Tyneside.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Hugo Lloris will lineup in goal for the North London outfit despite failing to secure a clean sheet versus Arsenal in the North London derby last weekend. Davinson Sanchez will retain his place alongside Toby Alderweireld at the heart of the Tottenham backline as they look to restrict the Magpies from creating too many chances in midweek.
Serge Aurier produced a disappointing display in the derby, so he will be desperate to put in a much-improved shift at right-back while Ben Davies continues to feature on the other side as the left-back. Mourinho will want both his full-backs to maintain a good defensive shape and cause the opposition a few problems going forward.
Eric Dier is suspended for this game, but Jan Vertonghen should be fit enough to be named on the bench.
Midfield
Both Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko will operate as the holding midfielders as they try to establish Spurs’ dominance at the centre of the park. The talented trio of Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn will operate just ahead of them as part of the Tottenham attack.
Mourinho will be inclined to freshen up his frontline after Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura had failed to put in a productive display in the London derby. We can expect both of them to be named on the bench, but they might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Harry Kane will once again lead the line for the North London giants up top. He didn’t manage to find the back of the net last weekend but gave a good account of himself nonetheless. Hence, the English striker will be reasonably confident about his chances of exploiting the Magpies defence on Wednesday.
Troy Parrott is a significant concern and is unlikely to be ready in time for this game.
