Tottenham Hotspur entertained Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up a positive result at home. Spurs made a sloppy start to the game and conceded an early goal to Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette in the 16th minute. However, it took the home side just three minutes to come with the equaliser when Heung-min Son levelled the scoreline after pouncing on a defensive mistake by the Gunners. Both teams went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
Mike Arteta’s men dominated more of the ball after the half-time interval, but were unable to break Spurs down. Toby Alderweireld finally managed to make the breakthrough when he found the back of the net with a glancing header in the 81st minute. The contest ended with Tottenham securing a hard-fought win in the North London derby by a narrow 2-1 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player fared during the match versus the Gunners.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6.5/10
The French keeper made a great save to deny Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just before Alderweireld’s goal in the second half. He will be disappointed for not having kept a clean sheet, but would be happy with the result.
RB: Serge Aurier – 4/10
He was at fault in the lead-up to Lacazette’s opener in the first half. He also got himself booked early in the game, which meant that he was walking a defensive tightrope throughout the remainder of the contest. It was far from a convincing performance from him today.
CB: Davinson Sanchez – 6/10
The Spurs centre-back didn’t do much wrong in the game, but will be disheartened for not securing a clean sheet. However, he did enough to restrict the Gunners from scoring in the second half.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 8/10
The Belgian defender popped up with the winning goal when he glanced the ball in with his head from Heung-min Son’s corner. He was solid defensively as well, which should make Mourinho happy.
LB: Ben Davies – 6/10
He went close to scoring, but was unfortunate to see the ball hit the crossbar. It was another hard-working performance from the Welsh full-back, but he has got nothing to show for his efforts going forward.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 6/10
The Tottenham midfield ace worked hard, but lacked quality in the opposition half. He will be hoping for more productive days wearing a Tottenham shirt.
CM: Giovani Lo Celso – 6/10
The Argentine put in a tireless shift in midfield, but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Harry Winks – 7/10
He anchored the midfield well for Spurs and managed to stop several of the Arsenal attacks using his tenacity and determination to earn the ball back for his side.
RW: Lucas Moura – 7/10
The Brazilian speedster did well to test Emiliano Martínez in the first 45 minutes. He was a constant menace for the opposition, but was toothless in front of their goal.
ST: Harry Kane – 7.5/10
The English centre-forward was unlucky not to have gotten his name on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying. He produced another hard-working performance up top and would be happy to have secured maximum points from the North London derby.
LW: Heung-min Son – 8/10
The South Korean international pounced on a defensive mistake which led to him scoring the all-important equaliser in the first half. He also picked up a late assist for setting up Alderweireld’s match-winner.
Substitutes:
RW: Steven Bergwijn – N/A
He didn’t get enough time to make an impact.
CM: Oliver Skipp – N/A
He offered some fresh legs in midfield.
CAM: Erik Lamela – N/A
The Argentine playmaker hardly had any time to influence the game.
