According to most reports, Manchester United have turned their attention to Porto forward Andre Silva. The lanky Portuguese have been in blistering form this season as the 21-year-old has already bagged 10 goals in 17 matches in all competitions.
Silva also recently scored his maiden hat-trick against the Faroe Islands. Jose Mourinho identified him as a potential target and is apparently ready to shell out a whopping £51.5m for the teenager.
Mourinho signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a one-year contract at the start of the season although the towering Swede has the option to extend it for a year but given his age and form it is very hard for to extend his stay.
Wayne Rooney has performed very poorly this season and has spent the most of the time on the bench. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are very exciting talents but currently they are being deployed on the wings.
Jose Mourinho had spent a brief period of his coaching career at Porto and won a number of coveted trophies including the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.
Silva came through the ranks of Porto. United are facing a goal dearth as they have scored only 24 goals in comparison to Liverpool’s 41 goals. Silva could be a solution to Mourinho’s goal scoring problem but will United be able to spend a huge amount of money on a youngster who is untested in the Premier League. Only time will say.
