Manchester United faced off against Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium earlier this evening hoping to continue their decent run of form in the Premier League. The Red Devils made a dominant start to the game and took the lead in the 16th minute courtesy of Mason Greenwood’s finish from close range. Bruno Fernandes doubled his team’s advantage just 13 minutes later when he netted a fortunate goal via a deflection.
The second 45 minutes was more of the same with the visiting side looking deadly on the counter. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men made the points secure when Fernandes found the back of the net again via a sumptuous volley in the 50th minute. The contest ended with the Mancunian giants earning a comfortable 3-0 win on the south coast of England.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the match against the Seagulls.
GK: David De Gea – 7/10
The Spanish goalkeeper made a couple of solid stops during the game and kept an easy clean sheet at the back for the Red Devils.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
The ex-Crystal Palace full-back was excellent defensively and also put in a decent shift in the opposition half. He played a vital role in the lead-up to Greenwood’s opener in the first half which shows that he is improving his game going forward.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6.5/10
The Swedish defender was a composed presence at the heart of Solskjaer’s defence and secured a comfortable shutout this evening.
CB: Harry Maguire – 6/10
He had a relatively untroubled day out inside his half and has got a clean sheet to show for his efforts.
LB: Luke Shaw – 6/10
The talented left-back maintained a good shape in defence but lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half.
CM: Paul Pogba – 7.5/10
The French midfielder is getting back to his best, and he showed that on the pitch today. Pogba picked up an assist for setting up Fernandes in the 29th minute and managed to get 64 minutes under his belt before being subbed out for Scott McTominay.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 7/10
The Serbian international retained possession well in midfield and played an excellent pass in the lead-up to Fernandes’ goal in the second half.
RM: Mason Greenwood – 8/10
The Man United youngster was bright and vibrant out on the wide areas. He scored with an excellent finish in the first half and set-up another goal after the half-time break, which will please Solskjaer a lot.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 9/10
The Portuguese playmaker has been a real revelation since joining the Red Devils and produced another outstanding performance at the Amex Stadium today. He was a constant menace for the opposition and scored two goals which will give him a lot of confidence heading into the business end of this campaign.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 6.5/10
The English speedster was a real headache for the Brighton defence but has got nothing to show for his efforts this evening.
ST: Anthony Martial – 7/10
It was an excellent, hard-working performance from the French striker. He did well to retain the ball and get others involved with his back to goal but didn’t create too many chances in the final third.
Substitutes:
CM: Scott McTominay – 6/10
He provided some fresh energy in midfield.
CAM: Andreas Pereira – 6/10
It was a nice cameo from him in the opposition half.
LB: Brandon Williams – 6/10
The promising full-back did well to see out the victory with the clean sheet intact.
RM: Daniel James – 6/10
The Welsh winger came close to scoring but lacked the power to beat the Brighton keeper, Matt Ryan.
ST: Odion Ighalo – 5/10
He did well to get some minutes under his belt.
