Real Madrid will be playing host to Getafe on Matchday 33 of La Liga Santander. This fixture is one of the most challenging tests Zidane’s side face in their quest for the 2019-20 La Liga title.
Getafe are placed 5th in the points table and are currently just two points off the UEFA Champions League spot. It is expected that Jose Bordalas’ side will give Real Madrid tough competition for this fixture in their bid to play in the Premier European club competition next season.
Real Madrid will be entering this fixture with all guns blazing as they cannot afford to drop any points with Barcelona lingering just within two points distance. Zidane will have nearly the entire squad at his disposal apart from Luka Jovic and Lucas Vasquez. The duo are yet to make a complete recovery from injuries they sustained during the pandemic enforced break.
Luka Modric will be making a return to the fold following the completion of his one-match suspension. Here’s how Real Madrid are expected to line-up for this intense fixture.
Defence
Thibaut Courtois will take command between the sticks for Zidane’s side. The shot-stopper has been in sublime form this season and has 15 clean sheets to his credit.
Dani Carvajal will be starting at the right-back position with no other natural right-back present in the squad. Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos will be the centre back pairing for this encounter against Getafe at the Alfredo de Stefano stadium. Marcelo is expected to retain his place in the starting eleven ahead of Ferland Mendy.
Midfield
The well-gelled trio of Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos will be taking charge of things in the centre of the field. Luka Modric will be returning in the line-up after missing out on Madrid’s trip to Catalan territory where they played Espanyol. The trident will be instrumental in the way this game plays out. Zidane will be counting on his experienced and well-oiled midfield to grab the three points on offer.
Attack
Isco will be starting on the left after a convincing performance against Espanyol midweek. The lethal Karim Benzema will continue to hold the number nine position from where he has found the back of the net on 17 occasions this season. Eden Hazard is expected to get the nod for this fixture over the in-form Vinicius Junior.
