West Ham United will play hosts to Chelsea at the London Stadium on Wednesday evening hoping to put a stop to their three-match losing run in the Premier League. The Hammers will come into this contest on the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur last week. In contrast, the Blues are currently enjoying a five-match winning streak, so it would take a monumental effort from the home side to come away with anything from this upcoming London derby.
David Moyes will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might be inclined to bring back Angelo Ogbonna to his first-team for this weekend’s showdown versus Frank Lampard’s men.
4-3-3 West Ham United Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Łukasz Fabiański will operate in goal for the Hammers despite conceding four goals in his past two league starts. Angelo Ogbonna will return and partner Issa Diop at the heart of the West Ham backline as they look to cope with the threat of Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud in midweek.
Ryan Fredericks should continue to feature at right-back while Aaron Cresswell tries to produce an impressive showing as the left-back. However, both of them will have their hands full while up against the in-form Chelsea wing duo of Christian Pulisic and Willian out on the wide areas.
Midfield
Moyes will choose to go with a midfield three comprised of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek. The hard-working trio will be instructed to battle for every loose ball at the centre of the park. They will have to provide adequate protection for their teammates at the back if West Ham are to grind out a result in midweek.
Manuel Lanzini will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen will continue to feature as the wide players while Michail Antonio once again gets the responsibility to spearhead the West Ham attack down the middle. The attacking three have failed to find the back of the net since the return of Premier League football. So this London derby could be an ideal opportunity for them to return to their goal-scoring ways when Chelsea visit the London Stadium on Wednesday.
Felipe Anderson will be named on Moyes’ bench alongside Andriy Yarmolenko as they await their chance to shine as an impact substitute.
