After suffering a defeat at the hands of Chelsea in their last Premier League encounter, Manchester City came into this match with their FA Cup hopes still alive. They were not left disappointed as the Citizens earned a 2-0 win against the Tyneside club which put them in the semi-finals of the tournament. De Bruyne scored the first goal of the match from the penalty, and Sterling sealed the deal in the second half with a curler. Although, not a stellar performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, this can still be counted as an effective one.
Manchester City Players Rated In Their Win Versus Newcastle United
Claudio Bravo- 7
Did not have much to do for the whole game. The Newcastle forward line was not penetrative enough to give any trouble to the goalkeeper.
Benjamin Mendy- 6.5
Massive test for him after the Chelsea match. However, looked decent for most of the game.
Aymeric Laporte- 7.5
Did his job well at the back. Carroll could have given him some problems; however, that was not the case to be.
Nicolás Otamendi- 7
Not a real test for the centre-backs, considering the lacklustre show of the Magpies forwards. Did not look nervy for a bit.
Kyle Walker- 8
More than his defensive contributions, what caught the attention of the onlookers was his runs from the flanks and his coordination with the other forwards.
David Silva- 8.5
The Spanish veteran showed his skills throughout the match and did his creative bit in the midfield. Would be sorely missed at the end of the season.
Kevin De Bruyne- 9
Again the City player of the match with him being at the centre of all the City attacks. Scored the first goal from the spot.
İlkay Gündoğan- 6.5
A rather timid display from the midfielder. His contributions at the centre of the pitch were somewhat subdued than his usual self.
Raheem Sterling- 8
Scored the second goal of the match. However, apart from that did not have too much else to do.
Riyad Mahrez- 7
The forward made his mark by linking up with the others on the pitch, although his end product was somewhat lacking.
Gabriel Jesus- 6
The striker had earned the penalty for his side, and that is all he did in this game.
Substitutes
Rodri- 6
A decent showing overall, although he was introduced to see the game off.
Bernardo Silva- 6
Made some decent runs throughout the pitch, although that did not bear any result.
João Cancelo- NA
Came on for the last twenty minutes. Not much for him to do.
Phil Foden- 7
His talent is there for all to see. Earned an assist after providing a pass to Sterling for the second goal.
