Premier League giants Manchester United secured their progress into the semifinal stage of this season’s edition of the FA Cup after a 2-1 extra-time victory against Norwich City. Even though the Canaries went down to ten men late into the second half of standard time, it took United 28 minutes of extra time to find the winner. Odion Ighalo opened the scoring with a poacher’s finish, after which a Todd Cantwell bullet caught Sergio Romero completely off-guard. It took a late and scruffy Harry Maguire goal to ensure that United play a part in the next round of the competition.
Here Are The Manchester United Player Ratings Vs Norwich City
Manchester United Player Ratings Vs Norwich City
Sergio Romero – 6
Wasn’t called into action on too many occasions by the Norwich City attackers, as United’s attacking was relentless for large portions of the game. Was helpless about the Cantwell rocket.
Diogo Dalot – 5.5
The youngster tried to get forward when possible but wasn’t able to produce the required quality in the final third. Was the first player to be substituted as he struggled defensively too.
Eric Bailly – 6
It wasn’t the Ivorian’s most composed display at the back tonight, but he ended up doing enough to keep the Norwich City attackers in check. Far from the worst performance he’s ever put up.
Harry Maguire – 8
The Englishman didn’t look like his confident self for small periods in the game but led the defensive line with composure and class. Scored the winner deep into extra time as well.
Luke Shaw – 7
The English speedster was a constant bundle of energy down the flank all though the fixture, as he was full of running even in the final minutes of the second half of extra time.
Scott McTominay – 6.5
The Scottish midfielder did well to control the tempo of the game from his position in the middle of the park, as he kept things neat and tidy for most of the night. Was taken off in the second period.
Fred – 6.5
The Brazilian seems to be getting better every day in terms of passing and movement, and he even displayed his shooting ability with a couple of strong strikes from a considerable distance.
Juan Mata – 6
The Spanish veteran made a couple of decent passes and linked up well in periods too. Didn’t have anywhere near the influence he would’ve liked, and not everything he tried came off.
Bruno Fernandes – 7
The Portuguese maestro played a couple of decent balls into the box and even had some sharp shots parried by Krul. Didn’t show his usual quality in midfield and wasted some good chances as well.
Jesse Lingard – 5
Wasn’t overly confident in the midfield position as he misplaced a flurry of passes all through the fixture. Didn’t manage to affect the tie from an attacking perspective despite some good situations.
Odion Ighalo – 7
The Nigerian forward showed excellent predatory instincts to fire in the United opener tonight. Tried to hold the ball up and make things happen but it just wouldn’t stick for him on occasion.
Substitutes
Brandon Williams – 6
Filled in at full-back pretty efficiently as he did a much better job than Diogo Dalot. Held his ground at the back and bombarded forward every time any space opened up in front of him.
Mason Greenwood – 6.5
The youngster showed a couple of moments of quality but wasn’t able to produce the required goods in the final third. Some good skill on the ball and looks like a prodigious starlet for the future.
Marcus Rashford – 6
The Englishman was seen operating on the left flank tonight, and he wasn’t allowed any running room by the deep Canaries defence line. Played some good passes into space though.
Nemanja Matic – 7.5
The Serbian midfielder came on and took control of possession in the middle of the park. Eased a lot of of the Norwich City pressure and ensured that the ball kept moving when United were on it.
Paul Pogba – 6.5
The Frenchman didn’t have his usual influence in the middle of the park but played in the ball that led to the United winner in extra time. Needs to produce more quality in the final third.
Anthony Martial – 6
Took a couple of decent touches but didn’t have too much time to really impact the fixture. Got the touch in the box that led to the Maguire winner.
