Real Madrid would be hoping to bring in few players for the forward position in the summer, meaning Gareth Bale could be only his way out. The Welsh player has not featured much in Zidane’s plans and thus transferring him out would be a sensible move for Los Blancos.
Recently, in an interview with Tribal Football Oscar Jansson has stated that the Spurs fans would welcome back their former player gladly, but Bale himself would be reluctant to leaving Real before the end of his contract. His exact words were, “I think Tottenham fans would take Bale back with arms wide open. It’s just about what he wants to do. I don’t think he’ll leave Real Madrid before his contract is up.”
Would Bale be fit to play at Tottenham?
The Real Madrid star was one of the biggest prospects of the North London club, and before his move to Spain, he mesmerised the fans of the Premier League with his electrifying performances. His record move to Real Madrid then happened, and unfortunately, he has never quite lived up to the expectations.
Although the ex-Southampton star has scored 88 La Liga goals in 170 matches for the side, people expected greater things for him. Being the sidekick of Ronaldo hurt his chances, and Bale could never flourish the way he did being the epicentre of the attack in Spurs. Since the departure of the Portuguese star, many would have wished for the 30-year-old to lead the team’s forward line, but even that wish has not been fulfilled. While Benzema has shown that he always had it in him to be the main strike force of the side, Bale has sunk further into oblivion.
This season the Wales international has starred in only 16 league matches for the side with 1092 minutes of football under his belt. So far, he has achieved only two goals and two assists for the side, and it has not seemed as Zidane considers him as a vital member of the team.
His injury-ridden years and age have taken a toll on his pace, the greatest asset of the forward. This season Bale has a successfully pass percentage of only 79.2%, and this underwhelming figure shows his sharp decline. Although he has taken 2.1 shots on average per game, a lot of those have been off target.
Would Tottenham benefit from the move?
At this moment Spurs have Lucas Moura to operate from the right side of the attack and the Brazilian has done alright throughout this campaign. Other than him, the manager can deploy Lamela on the right, who has been an impact substitute for the side. Bale is no longer a player who could vastly improve the quality of the squad and replace these existing players from the team.
Indeed, he knows the club out and out, and the fans can connect to him, but that in no way should justify the wage bill that should accompany the former player. Bale returning to Tottenham Hotspur does not make much sense for the club, and with limited financial capability, Mourinho should absolutely stay away from this deal.
