Don Balon are reporting that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent would be offering the striker to Real Madrid in the summer. Mino Raiola has to find a possible destination for the player and has lined up the Madrid side as a potential destination for the star, who wants to play at the elite level.
The 38-year-old player had not made any indication about the extension of his contract with AC Milan and thus could be on his way out of the club at the end of the current season. We all know that Real Madrid would be requiring attacking reinforcements and thus could be, atleast theoretically, interested in the services of the veteran striker.
The current situation of the club
Since the departure of Ronaldo to Juventus, the Madrid side has had a crisis in the attacking department. Indeed a player like Ronaldo is tough to replace, but the new signings of the club have not lived up to their reputation. Eden Hazard has not been the same player who used to light up the Stamford Bridge anymore. The Belgian has failed to compensate for the loss of the Portuguese superstar and Zidane has had to look at other avenues.
Karim Benzema has taken the opportunity to rise to the situation though, with the French star bringing in the goods. However, the veteran striker has his limitations, and the immense pressure that he has been subjected to, would at some stage come back to hurt his chances.
Most importantly, the biggest frustration for the manager has been their Serbian striker, Luka Jovic. The 22-year-old has failed to integrate himself into the team and has looked out of sorts in his limited appearances. The former Benfica man has scored just two La Liga goals in an injury-ridden season and Jovic being the primary striker of the side looks like a farfetched thought. All these issues go on to show that the Madrid squad is in grave need of a forward, probably the reason why Raiola offered Ibrahimovic.
Would Ibrahimovic suit Real Madrid?
The Swede has played at the highest level of football for the longest time, and there is no denying his talent. He is widely considered as one of the greatest players of this generation, and a quick look at the statistics could reveal the reason. So far, he has played in 798 matches across all competitions in his illustrious career and scored a prolific 478 goals. However, the question would remain whether he is still capable of playing for a top side such as Real Madrid and perform at the desired level.
This season the forward joined Milan and so far has played in eight league matches scoring thrice. This shows that the veteran ace still has it in him to do well for his side, albeit for a brief period. Age has taken a toll, and he cannot sprint the entire length of the pitch like he used to once. However, Ibrahimovic can still be a capable striker. Having said all this, it would be interesting to see whether Los Blancos management decide to bring such a short time option like Zlatan or instead go for a marquee signing who could lead the line for a long time.
