Leicester City entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium earlier today hoping to pick up maximum points at home. The Foxes made a sloppy start to the game and conceded an early penalty which Neal Maupay failed to convert for the Seagulls. The home side dominated possession for major periods of the first half, but couldn’t breakdown the Brighton defence as they went into the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts.
Both teams fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but struggled to add to their goal-tally as the match finished 0-0 after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester player fared during the contest versus the Seagulls.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 7.5/10
The Foxes keeper saved a crucial penalty in the 14th minute but was largely untroubled throughout the rest of the game.
RB: James Justin – 4.5/10
The English defender gave away a cheap penalty when he brought down Brighton’s Aaron Connolly, but fortunately for him, Schmeichel made a good stop from the resulting spot-kick. He was poor in the first half but put in a much-improved shift defensively after the half-time interval.
CB: Jonny Evans – 6.5/10
The English centre-back made a few no-nonsense clearances in what turned out to be a decent performance from him at the heart of Brendan Rodgers’ defence.
CB: Caglar Soyuncu – 6/10
He got a glorious chance to make the breakthrough towards the dying embers of the first half but powered his header wide from close range. He was relatively untroubled defensively and has got a clean sheet to show for his efforts.
LB: Ben Chilwell – 5.5/10
The English full-back struggled to cope with Tariq Lamptey’s runs out on the wide areas in the first half. However, he produced a better performance in the second and did well to set-up Vardy, whose flick saw the ball be blasted over by Maddison from 22 yards.
CM: Wilfred Ndidi – 5/10
He got cautioned midway through the first half and was walking a defensive tightrope for the remainder of the clash. He also missed a decent opportunity to score just before half-time.
CM: Nampalys Mendy – 5.5/10
He started the game well but ran out of gas after the half-time interval. Rodgers will be happy that Mendy got 68 minutes of game time under his belt.
RM: Kelechi Iheanacho – 5/10
The Nigerian attacker hardly got himself involved in the game and failed to create anything meaningful in the final third.
CAM: James Maddison – 6/10
The former Coventry City playmaker was marked out of the game by the Seagulls in the first 45. Maddison was Leicester’s best hope for a winning goal in the second half but was guilty of squandering a decent goal-scoring opportunity when he failed to hit the target from 22 yards out.
LM: Demarai Gray – 5.5/10
The 23-year-old created one decent chance for Vardy during the game but was mostly a frustrated figure down the left flank. He got replaced by Harvey Barnes after the hour mark.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 5/10
The English centre-forward struggled to get into the game in the early stages of the match. He tried his best to cause some problems for the Brighton defenders but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Youri Tielemans – 5/10
He struggled to influence the game going forward.
LM: Harvey Barnes – 5/10
The English playmaker offered very little after coming off the bench.
RM: Ayoze Perez – 6/10
The ex-Newcastle United player did well to win a corner but was otherwise ineffective.
