Chelsea are set to renew their interest in AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas. The Greek defender reportedly demanded a steep pay rise to his current wage but the Italian club has refused to pay heed to him.
Conte has been a long admirer of the defender and could again try him to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea kept a clean sheet in their last five matches but Conte is very keen to add another defender to the side. He made several attempts to bring a top notch defender in the summer but wasn’t able to sign any one and had to make do with David Luiz from PSG.
Arsenal tried forcing Roma’s hand by offering £35m for the defender’s services but Roma were very reluctant to sell him. The Gunners then went on to sign Shkodran Mustafi.
Manolas currently earns £40,000-a-week at the Stadio Olimpico but wants a £10,000 rise to his current wage. Chelsea can offer him a much higher salary.
