The football world thinks that Kylian Mbappe would conquer everything in the years to come, and Luka Modrić is no exception. The Real Madrid star has recently said in an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as cited by Goal) that the French superstar would dominate the scene in the future. The Croatian has further stated that he needs to leave PSG to rise to the top, with Real Madrid admittedly interested in the player.
In the same interview, Modric has also said that he would like to play for a couple of seasons more and end his career at Real Madrid. With the Spanish side looking to rope in the young talent, there is a probability that both of these stars become teammates in the future and fight alongside each other in their quest for glory.
The exact words of Modric were, “Mbappé has everything to dominate the scene. But I think that to make the leap in quality he needs to go to a championship in which his team does not win so easily. I’m sure I can play at a high level for two more years, then we’ll see. I would like to end my career at Real, but it will also depend on the club.”
The current status of the club
Real Madrid have won several accolades in the recent past with some of the best players in the world. However, if there was one player who had been indispensable to the side, it was Portuguese superstar Ronaldo. Since his transfer to Juventus, Real have struggled in attack.
Modric has been a brilliant performer for the club at the centre of the pitch for a long time now. The midfielder contributed so much to the success of the side that he was awarded the Ballon d’Or in 2018. Although Ronaldo is someone who used to take up the creative and the scoring responsibilities for his team alone, his partnership with Modric had also been fruitful.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup runner-up is adept at providing the long balls from the midfield to the feet of the forwards, and we have seen time and again how Ronaldo has made use of these precise passes. Modric also likes to play one-twos with the forwards and is excellent at creating lay-offs. All these qualities make the midfielder a dream teammate for his side’s attackers.
Would the combination of Mbappe and Modric work?
As Real Madrid are beginning to understand, acquiring a world-class player in central-midfield is as hard as it gets and that makes Modric such a vital member of the squad. Their inability to rope in anyone else of Modric’s pedigree means that Kroos would partner the ex-Spurs man at the centre of the pitch. Should Mbappe choose to move to Real, both of these men will have to assist the France international in his pursuit for glory.
At PSG, the combination of Verratti and Gueye provide the flair in the midfield for the French side and Mbappe is also benefited from the partnership. Modric can play a similar role as Verratti in the Real team, thus paving the way for the 21-year-old to dominate the scene for a very long time.
Los Blancos must not leave any stones unturned in their effort to bring Mbappe to Spain, and it has been reminded to them by one of their very own through the recent statements.
