Chelsea are on a spending spree recently as the club have already made deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to bolster their attacking options. According to reports they are also in the market for Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell, and it looks like the Blues are going to be a real contender next season.
However, acquiring so many players also means that they have to free up some fund by selling off the unwanted players of the squad. According to Marca, Chelsea are looking to sell N’Golo Kante this summer with Real Madrid and PSG interested in the service of the midfielder.
Do Real Madrid need Kante?
Real Madrid right now have two of the best central-midfielders of the world in Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos. Both of them have served the club for a very long time and have done a wonderful job. Last season we saw both these superstars operate at the centre of the pitch for Los Blancos along with Casemiro. While the Brazilian’s primary duty had been to help the side in the defence and cut off the possession of the opposition players, the two abovementioned superstars had been given the liberty to join the team in the attack.
Kroos, in particular, had been given the creative role just behind the three forwards. Overall, Zidane had successfully been able to play a brand of football with substantial possession in the midfield. Going into the new season at a time when roping in new forwards has become a cumbersome job, Real must consider retaining Jovic. The Serbian is known to flourish when his team is capable of keeping enough possession, and therefore the French gaffer must employ the same tactics next season.
In this respect, it would be pertinent to mention that Modric is 34 years old right now, and his time at the club should be limited. The Croat’s pace has taken a downward turn, and the ex-Spurs man cannot be expected to play at the same tempo for the entire 90 minutes. This is where the need for a new central-midfielder comes into the fray, and there is hardly anyone better than N’Golo Kante.
What would Kante add at Real Madrid?
The 29-year-old player has been one of the major reasons for his club’s and nation’s successful runs in the recent past. Astute at passing, the Frenchman can burst his lungs throughout the pitch for his team, and that is what makes him such a valuable member of the squad. His creativity is remarkable, and unlike Modric, who is more comfortable being a shield in front of the back-four, Kante is adept at playing short passes with the forwards. He likes to join the side in the attack, but not at the cost of his defensive responsibilities.
Even this season he has racked up a passing rate of 83.2%, which while down from the last few seasons, should still be enough to guarantee him a place in the Real Madrid starting lineup. Kante’s creativity can be evidenced from the fact that he has made 2.3 dribbles on average per match in the Champions League this term. More than anything else, the FIFA World Cup winner brings with him a winning mentality into the team, and the Madrid side would be blessed to have his services for the next few seasons.
