According to a recent report by the Scottish Sun, Premiership giants Rangers are said to be eyeing up a summer loan move for the services of Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster. The report suggests that the reigning European champions are expected to ship the forward out on a year-long loan next season to gain more experience. With Steven Gerrard’s everlasting links to Liverpool as well, the possibility of playing under him is reportedly an element of attraction for the Englishman.
Although Rangers want Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster at the Ibrox next season, the report claims that Swansea City, the club where he spent the second half of the current term on loan, are keen on him being back for another year.
Despite this, the fact that Brewster has played under Gerrard in the past for the Reds’ U-18s, added to the prospect of European football, could be too much for the youngster to pass up on. Add to the mix that the striker has previously spoken of his admiration for the Liverpool legend, and the possibility of this move taking shape only gets better.
What Would Rhian Brewster Add To This Rangers Side?
The 20-year-old was a former member of the Chelsea youth system but made the switch across the country to join the Reds’ academy in 2015. Having made it up the ranks at Anfield quite rapidly, the youngster went on to make an excellent impression on the coaches. A centre-forward by position, the Englishman is more than capable of operating as the number ten, or even as the second striker providing direct support to a defined target man. The forward is renowned for his ability to take up good positions in the box and finish off the chances that he gets.
The striker is strong enough to hold up the ball and bring teammates into the game on his own, while his dribbling skills tend to be quite sublime as well. Adept at making sharp turns in and around the opposition box, the forward should be described as a fairly complete player. The youngster’s attributes are quite well balanced, and this is apparent in his play. Unpredictability is another thing that Brewster brings to the table because he finds a killer pass just as well as he can take on a shot. Possibly most importantly though, the Englishman is a brilliant finisher inside the final third of the pitch.
How Has Rhian Brewster Done This Season?
The youngster spent the first half of the campaign at Anfield and was fortunate enough to make three appearances for the European giants – two in the Carabao Cup and one in the FA Cup. Having also represented the U23 side this term, the forward decided to make the loan switch to Swansea City in January in search of first-team playing time. The former Chelsea man featured in a total of 11 fixtures for the Championship club before the season was halted, and even managed four goals during the spell.
Rangers Want Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster: Smart Move For Steven Gerrard?
The Ibrox club’s recent acquisition of Ianis Hagi shows that Gerrard is looking to strengthen his attack ahead of next season, and Rhian Brewster would fit into this squad all too well. With all the question marks surrounding Alfredo Morelos, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think about the youngster as a potential short-term replacement. Even if the Colombian does stay on, Brewster will offer Gerrard a reliable alternative in matches where Plan A just doesn’t seem to be working. The Gers are likely to treat the upcoming season with a lot of importance given what’s on the line, and signing this Liverpool starlet would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction.
