According to Don Balon, many players want to leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season for various reasons. One such man is Son Heung-Min who has been one of the most prolific players for the English side.
The report further says that Real Madrid could be looking to rope in the South Korean as the Spanish giants look to bolster their attacking options this summer. However, it further says that Spurs would not let their prized possession to go easily and could demand a massive fee for him.
Son Heung-Min’s contributions at Tottenham
The injury to Harry Kane had put a dent in Mourinho’s plans this season as the Englishman had led the attack for the club for a long time. This is where Son has really stepped up, and overall he has scored 19 goals for the team across all competitions. Not only that, but the 27-year-old has also created eight assists in total this season.
Many hail him as the greatest Asian player ever to touch the ball, and that is not without reason. His creativity is exemplary, highlighted from the fact that this term, he has attempted 2.2 dribbles per game. Son usually plays as an attacking midfielder, particularly on the left side and his knack to cut inside and take a shot at the goal is what makes him such a lethal forward. This can be evidenced by the fact that on an average he has taken three shots per game.
The ex-Bayer Leverkusen man is also known for his passing skills, and getting his teammates into action. 85.1% of his total passes have been successful whereas he has made 25.2 passes per game in the top tier of English football. His finishing skills and ability to hold on to the ball are also worth mentioning. This season Son’s solitary goal against Burnley would be remembered by the fans for a long time and could certainly be a contender for the goal of the season. Performances like that would probably guarantee him a starting spot at Los Blancos.
What would be his role at Real Madrid?
Eden Hazard was brought in last summer from Chelsea to man the left side of the frontline of Zidane’s team. However, the Belgian has not lived up to his reputation, and it can be said that the fans have been left disappointed. Bringing Son into the team would mean that the Spanish club gets a viable alternative of Hazard on the left flank, but we doubt whether the French manager would give up on the former Chelsea player so soon.
Son is capable enough to ply his trade across other positions of the frontline, and that has become apparent this season when he has been asked to step in for Kane at the centre-forward position. This versatility of the player could make the club interested in him, and they would think of him as an option to Jovic and Benzema. Although the Spurs star would not be in his natural position, that would not prevent him from being an effective option in the frontline.
