Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez has made things a bit nervy for the Gunners by not yet agreeing to a contract with just 18 months to go on his current deal. It is now being reported that both Juventus and Manchester City are monitoring the current situation and are prepared to offer £50m for the attacker’s services.
Since his move from Barcelona, Sanchez has been one of the top performers for the Arsenal side scoring goals and contributing with his assists as well. Within a short time he has established himself as an indispensable part of the squad. The forward has already scored 50 goals for the North London club in just 107 games in all competitions.
Despite his claims of enjoying his football and being happy at the Emirates, the Chilean has never been in a hurry to commit his future to the club. When the talks seemed to be progressing about a potential new contract Sanchez had made a worrying demand of an inclusion of a release clause in the contract if he is to sign one along with a hefty pay rise.
It is believed that Arsenal were taken aback by the demand of a release clause. With their finances now recovering to a very secured position, Arsenal won’t be having too much of a problem to satisfy the financial demands of the player but Arsene Wenger and the board will not be very easy-going about inserting a release clause into the contract of one of their most prized assets.
The current standoff is thus a bit concerning for Arsenal. The interested parties know perfectly well that the Chilean’s current employers will be left with no other option but to sell him if both the parties can’t come to an agreement as it would provide the chance for Alexis to stay another year at the Emirates and then leave on a free transfer which will be totally disastrous.
Italian giants Juventus have been the admirers of Sanchez since his time with Udinese. They are very keen on the player just like Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester City managed by Pep Guardiola, who was the one under whom the Chilean played at Barcelona. Having praised Alexis during his time at the Camp Nou, Guardiola is very familiar with the player and what he brings on to the squad which is why the Citizens are also one of the clubs monitoring the whole situation ready to pounce whenever the chance arises.
This season Alexis has been used as the centre forward in most of the games which has served the team well on certain occasions. With the player scoring 8 goals in 13 appearances this season, it is going very well for Alexis on the pitch and he looks very happy with his current destination.
In football nothing is permanent and things do tend to change pretty quickly. The future of Alexis will become clear in the next few months and if he stays on for another three years over his current deal which Arsenal would be offering him, he can go down as one of the most celebrated players of the club with hopefully more silverware to show for his efforts on the pitch.
