What an appointment Brendan Rodgers is turning out to be at Celtic! Since the Northern Irishman was appointed by Celtic this summer, the Hoops have seen a significant improvement. Yet to be beaten in a single domestic game, the Bhoys look to be cruising on to their sixth successive Premiership title. However, no matter how good you are, there is always a room for improvement and Rodgers will definitely be looking to exploit the transfer market.
A report from The Scottish Sun claims that Celtic have become the latest club to register an interest in Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan. The 24-year-old has been attracting the attention of Championship trio Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Bristol City in recent times but Celtic are now looking to enter the race stunning the Championship triumvirate.
Horgan’s contract with Dundalk expires this December which makes him available for absolutely free in January. So, there is not much risk if Celtic wish to go for him. The Hoops have a number of quality wingers on their books right now in the likes of James Forrest, Scott Sinclair, Patrick Roberts and Gary Mackay-Steven. But, Roberts will go back to his parent club Manchester City in the summer while Mackay-Steven is yet to play a single minute under Rodgers. So, going for another winger does make sense.
Given his form this season, it is not difficult to see why the Irishman is attracting such an enormous interest. The 24-year-old has scored nine times this term in the domestic League helping the Lilywhites clinch their third successive League title. The 24-year-old is having a brilliant Europa League campaign for his side this term having scored once and assisting twice in four games.
The Irishman is a quick and agile winger who likes to operate mostly from the left flank. So, he is likely to be seen as a cover for Scott Sinclair when he moves to Parkhead. The Republic of Ireland international can outpace most defenders in the world with his pace and can put deadly crosses into the area. He is predominantly right-footed but uses his weaker foot pretty well too.
Celtic do not need to pay a single penny for the winger’s services if they indeed sign him in January. There is very little chance that Roberts will stay at Parkhead after this season and Mackay-Steven is also struggling. This could be a huge chance for the 24-year-old to make his name at the bigger stage with Celtic.
