According to a recent report by Spanish publication Sport, Serie A giants Juventus are said to have offered Chelsea a list of three players that they’re willing to exchange to acquire the signature of Italian midfielder Jorginho this summer. The Turin side’s manager, Maurizio Sarri, is said to be insistent on a reunion with his trusted midfield commander, but luring him away from Chelsea could turn out to be quite the task for the tactician.
The report suggests that the Old Lady initially tried to offer the Blues Bosnian ace Miralem Pjanic, but that the midfielder’s refusal of the proposal has forced them to provide alternate options. Chelsea’s three Juventus transfer options in exchange for Jorginho are Brazilian speedster Douglas Costa, Italian wide-man Federico Bernardeschi, and finally French midfielder Adrien Rabiot. Whether or not Lampard is actually willing to let his star midfielder leave, is a whole other question altogether.
What Is Jorginho’s Role In This Chelsea Team?
Signing the Italian was one of the biggest additions that former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri made when he first arrived as Stamford Bridge, and despite not having the best first season, the former Napoli man has really found his own this time around. The midfielder likes to sit just in front of the defence line and control the tempo of the game. With an energetic midfielder like Mateo Kovacic alongside him, Jorginho has even added advanced pressing to his game this season.
Chelsea’s 3 Juventus Transfer Options In Exchange For Jorginho: Who Would Fit In The Best?
Douglas Costa
The Brazilian international winger is a player that needs no introduction on the European stage, having spent ample time with some of the biggest clubs in the continent. The former Bayern Munich man’s attacking attributes needn’t be questioned, but the real concern for Lampard will be the fact that the speedster turns 30 before the end of next season. Considering the trend that the Stamford Bridge hero seems to be following, signing a player of Costa’s profile does look like a long shot.
Federico Bernardeschi
The Italian winger is one of the most technically gifted players in the Juventus roster and could be an excellent addition to the Blues’ front-line. At 26-years-old, the trickster would offer Lampard’s men the ideal balance of experience and energy, and with the Blues unsurprisingly on the lookout for a winger, moving for Bernardeschi could make a lot of sense. The Fiorentina academy graduate boasts versatility that allows him to be played in central midfield as well.
Adrien Rabiot
If there’s one thing that Frank Lampard doesn’t need during the upcoming transfer window, it would be another midfielder. The Blues have an abundance of options in the middle of the park, and the addition of a player of Rabiot’s quality would make the manager’s selection headache that much worse every week. In names like Ross Barkley and N’Golo Kante, the Blues possess a wide variety of multi-skilled midfielders, and signing Rabiot would do nothing to improve this Chelsea squad.
