Real Madrid and their chase of Paul Pogba has been in the news for quite some time now, and so far it seems that it is not going in the direction the Madrid club would want it to go. Although they are not close to signing the French star, the rumour mills have been burning their midnight oil linking the player to Real.
In the meantime former Real Madrid midfielder Uli Stielike has stated that Zidane should go for more humble players rather than someone like Pogba. In an interview with AS Stielike has said, “If you want to return to the idea of the galactics, maybe yes, but I am more in favour of humble players with great talent and sacrifice for the team”.
Here we take a look at three other alternatives that Real could look forward to in case they decide to listen to their ex-star’s advice.
Sergej Milinković-Savić
The Lazio man would be a perfect fit at the midfield of the Spanish side, and it is the primary reason that Zidane has taken a look at him previously. His performances have caught the eye of the best clubs in Europe, and it is not without a reason that offers are pouring in for him from everywhere. His physicality and stature would give Los Blancos the kind of solidity they need in the midfield and the Serbian could fit into Zidane’s squad with ease.
Thiago Alcântara
The ex-Barcelona man could make a return to Spain if Real come calling this summer. A couple of transfer windows back, the Madrid based club were seriously linked with the Bayern midfielder, and even now the 29-year-old could fit the bill at Real Madrid.
Alcantara’s creativity and tenacity could undoubtedly be an asset for the French manager, and he is one who has the pedigree to rub his shoulders with the best in the business. Indeed, one may argue that the Spaniard is just past his prime, but he still has enough steam in him to continue at the top for a few seasons more.
Adrien Rabiot
Pogba’s counterpart in the French national team is an unsettled man at Juventus and Real could use this opportunity to lure him to Spain this summer. Indeed, his performances at Turin have not been the best and Rabiot has failed to relive his PSG days, but Zidane may still get the best out of the French midfielder if he is appropriately guided.
The 25-year-old has plenty of tricks up his sleeves which the gaffer could make use of. It can be presumed that the best years of the Juve man are ahead of him and he could be the solution to Los Blancos midfield for a long time.
