After four years, Mario Gotze’s second spell with Borussia Dortmund will come to an end. Dortmund have officially announced that the German international will part ways with the Bundesliga side, and the decision has been arrived at mutually. The manager, a few days earlier, stated that the formation of 3-4-3 does not suit the style of the player.
With the decision being officially reached, this will inevitably start a bidding war among clubs across Europe, and the Daily Star reports that the English clubs Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United will battle it out among themselves to secure the signature of the former Bayern man.
Should Ole Gunnar Solskjær secure his signature?
Manchester United brought in Bruno Fernandes in the winter transfer window, who has had (in a short time) the kind of impact that the side had been lacking for a long time. However, it has been subsequently proven that Fernandes alone would not be enough to revive the future of the team.
Rashford has been leading the attack of the team for some time now, and one injury to the Englishman exposed the lack of depth to such an extent that the gaffer had to bring in one 30-year-old man on loan from the Chinese league.
Under any circumstances, there was a shortage of reliable forwards at United, and they have been flirting with other options. Now that a player as experienced as Gotze has been made available, the Red Devils should not think twice before making a move for the German.
He would be an ideal signing for the Mancunians, one that would make the combination of Fernandes, Rashford, Gotze and Pogba (if he at all stays) a real menace for the opposition defenders to deal with.
What would he add to Old Trafford?
The 27-year-old started very early at Dortmund and been a part of the youth setup, only to be inducted in the first team by then Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp at a very early age. Soon he caught the attention of the football world in general and helped the team in their pursuit of successive Bundesliga trophies in 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Bayern Munich, with all their might, came knocking at the door and convinced him to sign for them in 2013.
Playing under Pep Guardiola changed the dynamics for the man, and he could never make the kind of impact he did at Dortmund partnering with Marco Reus. A transfer back to Dortmund had followed after three seasons, which is on the verge of ending.
Gotze would once again have the chance to relive his golden days at United, and the team would gain immensely from his passing range and shooting ability. His dribbling and through balls could also be what Solskjær is excited about, and hopefully, the board steps in at the right time to make a move.
