According to Alfredo Pedulla, as cited by TuttoNapoli, Tottenham are pushing ahead with the transfer of Arkadiusz Milik. However, the Premier League giants could face stiff competition from rivals Chelsea in the pursuit of the Napoli forward. Milik reportedly faces an uncertain future in Naples, and a summer move could be on the horizon, with Spurs and Chelsea also being joined by Juventus. He is set to cost around €50 million.
Arkadiusz Milik: A success at Napoli?
Milik initially joined Napoli back in 2016, in a €32 million move from Ajax. He was then considered to be one of the most talented young attackers in European football. However, the Pole endured a somewhat slow start to his Serie A career, featuring in just over 500 minutes of league football during his debut campaign.
Milik’s progress was haunted by a knee injury the following campaign. As a result, his overall gametime was once again minimised. But, the 26-year-old emerged as a force for Napoli during the 2018/19 campaign, netting 17 goals in just 35 league matches. His exploits in the final third helped the Partenopei finish second in the league table.
During his ongoing four year spell at Napoli, Milik has featured in 109 competitive matches, scoring 46 goals. And as the club looks to embark on a new era under Gennaro Gattuso, it is understandable why his future in Naples is at risk.
Tottenham are pushing ahead with the transfer of Arkadiusz Milik: A wise option for Jose?
Tottenham Hotspur look to have their priority set on signing a new striker this summer. Their marquee forward Harry Kane has been linked with a move elsewhere while the club have also lacked a proper back-up for the English international. As a result, manager Jose Mourinho has had to rely on the services of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min in the goalscoring department this year.
Milik is not a bad option at all. The Pole does have the quality to emerge as an ideal replacement for Kane, although he may not possess the same finishing skills as the Spurs superstar. In fact, he often tends to miss glaring chances, which is a significant flaw in his game.
But at the same time, Milik is known for his ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities and be at the right place at the right time. Standing at 1.86m, the 26-year-old also has an imposing figure that gives him a considerable advantage in physical and aerial duels – thus making him an ideal fit for the physically astute nature of the Premier League.
However, Tottenham’s priority should be to keep hold of Kane as long as possible since Milik’s staggering €50 million price tag would make him too expensive for a back-up.
