According to a recent report by French source Le10Sport, Premier League giants Arsenal are said to have opened talks with Serie A outfit Juventus over the potential summer purchase of French midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The report suggests that the playmaker has been on the Gunners’ radar since his days at Paris Saint-Germain and that they are now more determined than ever to secure his signature. Fellow Premier League outfit Everton are also said to be keen on the Juventus man.
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has managed the French international in the past during his days at the Parc Des Princes, with the Toffees also said to have opened a dialogue with Juventus about a potential sale. Even though the Turin club acquired the former PSG man for free last summer, it has been clarified that they will expect upwards of €30m for his signature this time around. The midfielder has reportedly been transfer listed by the reigning Italian champions as well.
Arsenal Open Talks Regarding Adrien Rabiot Signing: How Has The Frenchman Done This Season?
Having made the switch from Paris to Turin just last summer, it’s safe to say that the Frenchman has struggled to make any sort of impact on Maurizio Sarri’s squad. The 25-year-old featured only 17 times in the Serie A this time, with not a single goal or assist to show for his efforts. While these statistics undoubtedly show the midfielder in a terrible light, there’s definitely more to Rabiot’s play than what meets the eye.
What Would Rabiot Add To This Arsenal Midfield?
There’s no denying that this Arsenal squad is multiple signings away from being a complete one, but what can be said with confidence is that Arteta should look to start by strengthening the core of the team. The Gunners currently boast just three natural midfielders in their ranks – Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka.
While it could be argued that Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock are also options, it’s worth considering that the Spaniard is at the Emirates on loan. At the same time, Willock is still too young to deliver on a regular basis.
A player of Rabiot’s quality could be precisely what this Arsenal team have been calling out for over the last few seasons – a composed midfielder who can consistently make important attacking contributions. While Xhaka, Guendouzi and Torreira are all primarily defensive-minded players, the addition of Rabiot could provide Arteta with a breath of fresh air in the middle of the park. The Frenchman is adept at picking out forward passes, while his record over the years indicate that he’s even got the odd goal under his belt.
Should Arteta Look To Get The Rabiot Signing Done?
The Gunners’ search for consistency took a massive upturn when Mikel Arteta was appointed as the manager midway through the current league campaign. Although they still have a long way to go, the fact remains that they’re now better off than they were at the start of the season.
Having had time to get to know his squad, the Spaniard’s next step would be to impart his ideology on to the team, and there’s no better way to do that than by making well thought out signings in the transfer market. Rabiot would be an excellent addition for the Gunners, and the sooner they’re able to get this signing done, the fasterArteta will be able to deliver the goods at the Emirates Stadium.
