Erling Braut Håland has been making waves in the football world in recent times. It seems like the halt of the Bundesliga has not affected his rhythm at all as the striker has welcomed the restart of the league by scoring a goal for his team against Schalke 04 this Saturday.
The interest of clubs like Real Madrid are well known for this youngster, but a former Los Blancos manager, Fabio Capello has stated that Liverpool would be the ideal destination for the player. According to Sky Italia (as cited by AS), the Italian gaffer has also said that the Dortmund man would thrive under the stewardship of Jürgen Klopp.
What would Haaland add to the Liverpool side?
The Norwegian is currently, without any doubt, one of the best forwards in the world. His performances for Red Bull Salzburg were already breathtaking, but his displays for Dortmund have been out of the world.
He has proven that he can fit into any side with ease and take the overall quality of the squad a notch higher. Liverpool are no exception, and the 19-year-old would make the Reds a much better unit. Jürgen Klopp has been a great mentor for the talented young players throughout his career, and under him, Haaland could also surpass himself.
Were Liverpool right in not going for Haaland?
After his stupendous performance in Austria, Haaland had already been a transfer target for some of the best clubs of Europe. His showing against Liverpool in the Champions League had been praised by many. However, Klopp decided to walk the path less traversed and sign his teammate Takumi Minamino in the January transfer window.
It is fair to say that the Japanese international is yet to produce the magic that had prompted the Liverpool manager to bring him at Anfield. Maybe at that point of time, it seemed that Minamino would be ideal for Klopp’s system, but after a few months, nobody would disagree on the fact that pouncing for Haaland at that moment would have been a better option.
How could Haaland fit Klopp’s system?
The German manager has made a name for himself by playing an attacking brand of football, combined with fluidity. In this setup, while Salah and Mane operate from the wings, Firmino plays as a false-nine, often dropping back and helping his teammates. With Haaland in the team, this must change as the ex-Molde player would act as a poacher, and it would be the duty of the other players to be the support system for this maverick forward.
However, the versatility and football intelligence of the Dortmund player is beyond question, and he would be able to integrate himself in any role that Klopp thinks is perfect for him.
