According to a recent exclusive report by Le10Sport, West Ham United target Morgan Sanson has recently joined the roster of renowned European super-agent Pini Zahavi, in the hopes of finding a move away from Marseille during the upcoming summer transfer window. It has been clarified in the report that the Ligue 1 club are banking on a transfer for the player in the coming months, having reportedly rejected a series of concrete offers for the midfielder’s services in the past.
The report suggests that Newcastle United, West Ham United and Serie A giants AC Milan are all keen on the Frenchman’s signature. It has also been clarified that the Ligue 1 side rejected a bid in the region of €30m in recent months. The report claims that the club actually values the player at around €50m – a rather exorbitant fee for a midfielder who’s never played in a single league other than the French Ligue 1. When clubs like Newcastle and West Ham United are interested in Morgan Sanson though, it means that he offers something out of the ordinary.
What Is West Ham’s Current Midfield Situation?
West Ham are one of the few clubs in the Premier League, who despite having made some massive investments over the last couple of years, are still on the lookout for secure players across multiple positions. The Hammers undoubtedly will need to add a new defender, an attack-minded midfielder and a potent striker, if they have any hopes of maintaining their high-profile status in the world of Premier League football.
While it could be argued that a plethora of good midfield talent is already available to David Moyes, a quick analysis will show that they’re all defensive players.
Declan Rice and Mark Noble have been the two preferred names in the core of the team, and although neither of them has put up bad performances, there is an apparent lack of creativity when going in the attacking direction. Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini are both at their best when deployed as the number ten, while Jack Wilshere’s never-ending injury concern rules him out of the picture too. Carlos Sanchez and Tomas Soucek – both defensive midfielders, form the Hammers’ final two options for the role.
What Would Morgan Sanson Add To This West Ham Side?
The Frenchman’s versatility allows him to be played in the number ten slot supporting the main striker, or in one of the anchor roles where he would be able to control the pace of the game. Ideally, Sanson would replace Mark Noble as one of the two midfield pivots, and operate alongside Declan Rice. The Marseille man boasts good positioning in defensive situations, while he is just as potent going in the opposite direction.
When paired with an intelligent player himself in Rice, the duo could work wonders at the London Stadium next season. The midfielder’s sheer utility makes him an excellent option for the Hammers. The lack of a player who can look up and find a runner has seriously hurt the London club over the last few years, and Sanson could be exactly the kind of player they’ve been looking for.
West Ham United Are Interested In Morgan Sanson: Should David Moyes Get This Done?
Sanson has five goals and five assists to show from his 27 Ligue 1 fixtures this season, while all the seven aforementioned West Ham midfielders collectively picked up just one goal more than the Frenchman all campaign (Transfermarkt). This shows the difference that the addition of a single attack-minded midfielder, whose primary intention is to create a scoring chance, could have on a team.
Morgan Sanson, over the last couple of years, has proven that he’s got what it takes to perform in the big time, and that’s why David Moyes will do well to beat Newcastle United to the Marseille man’s signature in the summer.
