According to a recent report by Sky in Germany (via The Daily Express), Manchester City are locked in a three-way transfer battle with Real Madrid and Barcelona to land Bayern Munich wing wizard Kingsley Coman this summer. However, the same source has also revealed that the French playmaker’s future hinges on the potential signing of Leroy Sane from the Citizens during the summer transfer window (via The Daily Express). In other words, if Man City intend to win the race for Coman, then they might have to sanction Sane’s move to join Bayern in this off-season.
Coman’s Decent Run Of Form At The Allianz Arena This Season
Coman has enjoyed another fruitful season at Bavaria after producing a series of eye-catching displays as a left-sided winger in Hans-Dieter Flick’s first-team. He has been involved in 24 matches for the German giants this term, registering five goals and five assists across multiple competitions. His record highlights just how well he has performed despite receiving a total of 1679 minutes of game time on the field.
To his credit, the France international has averaged 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League this season (stats via whoscored) which sheds light on his consistency going forward.
Coman has also earned 22 senior caps for the French national side, scoring four international goals in the process. Maybe, a change of scenery this summer could provide him with a bigger platform to showcase his skills and earn a starting berth in Didier Deschamps’ first XI ahead of next year’s UEFA European Championship finals following the competition’s postponement as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What Will The French Winger Add To Pep Guardiola’s Side?
Coman can use his electric pace and agility to complete some dangerous dribbles with the ball out on the wide areas. He showcases excellent ball-control and outstanding dribbling skills when attempting to take on his marker down the left flank. The Frenchman also packs a lot of power with his strikes on-target and is also proficient at curving the ball into the opposition net. However, he can sometimes lack composure in the final third, which explains why he has struggled to score more goals in the Bundesliga this season.
At the same time, Coman is an excellent distributor of the ball as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 88.1% in the Champions League this season (stats via whoscored). Therefore, it is safe to assume that the Bayern star will have no trouble in settling into Guardiola’s style of possession-oriented football at the Etihad Stadium next season.
Coman might not be as productive as Sane in terms of goal-scoring and assist-making, but he holds a far better injury record when compared to the German international. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for Guardiola to orchestrate a move to bring Coman to the north-west of England this summer. Coman will also provide the Man City boss with the freedom to explore new options as far as team selections, formations and tactics are concerned in the coming seasons.
