Eduardo Camavinga is one of the hottest prospects in Ligue 1 at the moment. The 17-year-old defensive midfielder, plying his trade for Rennes, has caught the attention of the football fraternity, so much so that clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid have taken a plunge for the player.
Now Rennes manager Julien Stephan has stated to AFP (via Marca) that he believes that the player would stay with the club for one more season. He said, “I think all the conditions are in place for [Camavinga] to stay with us for one more year. It would be good for him to stay here for one more season, because he is in an environment that he knows very well and is at a club who have blind faith in him and is surrounded by people who know him perfectly.
“His potential is enormous, but we know the difficulties involved at the highest level. You have to allow him to grow and above all, to enjoy the field, because now it is the most important thing for him.”
Why Manchester United need Camavinga
Eduardo Camavinga is an out and out defensive midfielder, who likes to play just in front of the back four. Technically the only player at this moment in the United lineup who is adept playing at that position is Nemanja Matic, who is 31 at the moment and evidently at the last phase of his United career. Both Fred and Scott McTominay are more comfortable moving forward and orchestrating movements further up the field. Therefore acquiring a player of the capability of Camavinga, who has caught the attention of the fans and the pundits alike, would be a great coup for the Red Devils.
The way Camavinga can be attracted
The recent comments from Julien Stephan highlight one important aspect. He implies on the fact that the youngster would be devoid of first-team opportunities if he moves to a bigger club like United or Real Madrid and that in turn could hamper his progress as a player. This is where Ole Gunnar Solskjær can try and convince the player by demonstrating the current situation of United. With Matic’s performance being not up to the mark, Man United would require a defensive midfielder to stamp their authority against stronger teams, meaning the manager would be able to integrate Camavinga into the first team from the very start almost.
Will Camavinga sustain in the Premier League
Eduardo Camavinga may be only 17-years old, but the France U-21 player has a certain physical presence. There is no way to understand his age from his playing style if you are not told of this fact, and often one could mistake him for a much more matured player.
Indeed, Ligue 1 is not as physical as the Premier League. Still, after the initial adjustment phase, there is not an iota of doubt that Camavinga would learn to boss the midfield of the United team. Thus the Red Devils should not waste any further time as they cannot let Real Madrid manager Zidane lure the French the talent from under their nose.
