During an interview with Metro, Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign Willian and Ryan Fraser this summer. The former Everton striker believes that these two free agents could benefit the Gunners next season as they look to recover from a disastrous 2019/20 campaign so far. Arsenal have been linked with both the players during the course of this campaign.
What can Willian add to the table?
Willian is one of the most experienced wingers in the Premier League right now. He has established himself as a key component for Chelsea since joining the club back in 2013. His experience at the highest level of football could come in handy for an Arsenal attack that often relies on young guns.
However, what makes Willian such an appealing target for Arsenal is his tactical adaptability. The Brazilian can feature on both flanks and has the ability to provide crosses into the box. He is also capable of beating players with his pace, which would make Arsenal much more threatening on the counter.
Willian can be deployed as a wide-attacker alongside Nicolas Pepe, with Mesut Ozil operating in the number ten slot. The Gunners will undoubtedly become one of the most feared attacking teams in Europe if these three can gel together. And for a free transfer, the Chelsea star could indeed turn out to be a bargain for the north London giants.
Ryan Fraser: The answer to Arsenal’s lack of creativity?
While Arsenal certainly need new players to revamp the attacking department, they also need to be aware of the futility of their existing stars. Ozil, in particular, has been a culprit. The German has failed to live up to the expectations, with his overall productivity taking a considerable toll in recent years.
Fraser, in that regard, should serve as an excellent alternative. The Bournemouth star was one of the league’s best chance creators in the Premier League last season. Although he has struggled with injuries this term, the attacker is still considered as a key player for the Cherries.
A left-winger by trade, Fraser is not a direct replacement for Ozil. But, his ability to create chances will allow Arteta to stop relying on the 4-2-3-1 formation. Instead, the Spaniard could opt for a 4-4-2, with Fraser and Pepe operating as wingers. Playing two strikers upfront will significantly improve the club’s effectiveness in the first line of press.
Moreover, at the age of 26, Fraser still has time on his side and could provide a future prospect for Arsenal. And the fact that he will be available for free potentially makes him a coup for the Gunners this summer.
