The 21-year-old was one of the most exciting summer signings following an impressive 2018-19 season with Motherwell but fell down the pecking order due to the presence of a plethora of wing-forwards who were already fighting for a starting slot at Rangers.
What Went Wrong For Hastie Following A Summer Loan
The youngster made an immediate impact in South Yorkshire by finding the net in his first three games (via Transfermarket) and earned a regular status there during the initial months. But his form dipped drastically since October, and the Scotsman eventually lost his place from the Millers’ starting eleven.
Rangers, however, opted to recall him from Rotherham in January and sent him to the reserves for gametime before the suspension of the game due to COVID 19. He had a couple of appearances during his initial days at Rangers before joining Paul Warne’s side. However, the spell in England has not served the purpose of Hastie’s emergence as a key individual from the next season onwards.
Does He Have A Future At Rangers?
The Gers got the likes of Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi who should be preferred down the wide areas. Joe Aribo has exhibited his versatility this term and therefore, remains a quality alternative to occupy the right-wing role if required. Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker would keep on covering and contesting for a place in Gerrard’s plan with Sheyi Ojo likely to return to his parent club Liverpool after failing to cement his place despite a promising start.
An incredible run at Burton Albion should see Jamie Murphy back in the contention for the upcoming campaign. Still, the Bears must arrange another season-long loan for Hastie to let him flourish and thrive defying the odds and secure his future at Govan in the long run.
